2013 Quarterback Race: Kiehl Frazier vs Jonathan Wallace vs Jeremy Johnson

What guy does Gus Malzahn pick in the end?
I've decided that, even though he's a true freshman, I'd prefer for Jeremy Johnson to get the nod. I didn't like what I saw from Kiehl Frazier last year running or throwing (even though he is Malzahn's "Golden Boy"), and even though I love Jonathan Wallace and everything he stands for, I want the guy that looks like he has the highest ceiling. Jeremy Johnson, IMO.

I could see any of three taking the job. I would obviously love for Johnson to take the reigns but we don't need to rush him into the starting job.
I think Wallace starts the first game.

Honestly, I would personally see it between JJ and JW. Kiehl just looked bad through the whole season when he had opportunities. He missed a lot of simple passes out of the backfield and just made bad decisions.
My vote would go to Wallace at the moment unless JJ is just a fricking stud when he arrives. The experience that Wallace got last year will go a long way towards this year plus JJ won't be involved in the spring so that will hurt also. I just see Wallace as being a solid quarterback and too far out front for JJ to catch up with. I wouldn't mind seeing JJ getting a redshirt this year to get acclimated to the speed and offensive style.

Wiling to give KF another chance. It wasn't his fault Chiz went LOLffler on him. He was completely out of his element, and it showed.

the black guy should win.

I'm excited to see what Spring practice does for our QB's. I feel the offense is gonna be fine regardless. It's the defense that I'm most concerned with.

I don't think he would do it unless Wallace or kiehl show their arse in the spring, but I would love to enter fall practice with a starter in hand this year. I think it would go a long way towards turning the program around.

quote:I just don't know if he has near what it takes to be a quarterback in the SEC. Like someone mentioned, he misses the simplest throws from out of the backfield. Those are throws that Quan Bray and CJ Uzomah could make. He just...sucks. I know the coaching change possibly stunted his growth a good deal, but damn...he's terrible.

I think Kiehl's ship has sailed. I just don't see him getting it together. The race has to be between JW and JJ.
I think Wallace gets the first start, Johnson will get a small package to run a few games in, Frazier will hold up signs and keep his uniform clean.

KF is a joke. Most people don't know that this past summer he "quit" the team. Told the coaches he didn't want to play anymore. Took his dad talking some sense into him to really get him to not walk out on the team.
Add on that he can't pick up college level schemes and reads, can't put the right touch on any throw and somehow lost his running ability. The guy is Tim Tebow without the read ability or the running ability now

I am sick of QB races every year.

Wallace will be the starting QB next fall, Frazier will be the back up and the new kid will get red shirted. Picking up an SEC offense in a few weeks is a tall order for a true freshman, no matter how talented.
Wallace, IMHO, will light it up next year under Gus / lashlee. Kid is a smart and talented QB put in a horrific position by Chizik.

When is the last time we have had the same QB start opening game two years in a row? Brandon Cox?

FYI, I want JJ to come in and take over. We'll see.

I believe it was Brandon Cox started three years in a row.05-07

Frazier, and he'll do well, I'd bet.

I want it to be Wallace. Next year is going to be a struggle regardless. If Frazier ends up being the better fit then I'm okay with that. However, I don't want Johnson to have to play. I want him to redshirt. Let him sit back, get his mechanics straightened out, then see what he can do.

Yes he is. Move his arse to WR and let JW and JJ decide it on the field this spring.

I don't think Johnson will be good enough to start as a freshman. I think it will be Frazier or Wallace, gotta lean Wallace on this one.
