Offense will evolve over time as staff gets its own players in place. Staff needs time to recruit and develop players. TE will be an important position. Best two TE's are currently two walk-ons. Didn't say names.
That's pretty surprising to me.
Mitchell Loewen and Alex Voelzke, maybe? Can't believe Tate has been THAT big of a disappointment.

Yeah those two would be my guesses. Herbert raved about them in his interview last week. They were the only two TE's that he talked about.
I think it just depends on what they want to do with the TE's. Tate is probably the best blocker but Voelzke and Loewen are much more athletic. Voelzke, like Gragg, was a receiver in HS before coming to Arkansas and bulking up. He was barely pushing 220 and now is almost 250.
I still think Henry will blow them all out of the water once he gets on campus and in to the weights. None of them are as athletic as he is on the field. He just needs to bulk up first to handle the blocking on the line.

I tell you what, those two tight ends, Alex Voelzke and Mitchell Loewen … and I don’t think Loewen even played tight end before. And I guess they were walk-ons. Those two are turning into guys that are really starting to flourish. It’s going to be exciting to see if they can carry it over onto the field.

And then those two tight ends (Loewen and Voelzke), I can’t say enough about those guys. Walk-ons, to me – we’ve had a lot of walk-ons in my past that I’ve seen be successful – and those guys right out of the gate, I didn’t know they were walk-ons. But they’ve made a difference. I think they have very bright futures. Mitchell Loewen, I don’t think he’s played the tight end position before. But it was one of the things I told Coach B. I thought he was a two- or three-year starter. He bends well, he’s strong, he’s aggressive. Interested to see him get comfortable and go out and apply some of the things that he does, because he’s a big, physical kid who has a little bit of a streak in him. He’s going to be a fun one to watch.

Well put. Very exciting to hear that about the walk-ons, though. I was already pretty "okay" with the tight ends because I think Tate is pretty good and I suspected Dean would be a decent receiving TE option. If the two walk-ons have progressed THAT much, I'll just feel all that much better.

Yeah that is who he is talking about.
I like Tate and he is a good kid but he is pretty much a 3rd tackle out there. You aren't going to get a lot of receiving out of him. I still expect him to play a role on the team but it won't be much in the passing game.
I also still say Hunter Henry is the starter when he gets here. He has some work to do as far as blocking is concerned but he is by far the best TE on the roster.

That's crazy that Tate isn't more athletic than those 2, especially considering how good he was on the hardcourt and I've always thought he played on the thin side.

To me his weight gain really changed the way he plays. At Harrison he was 215-220 and seemed alot quicker and more agile. He is now listed at around 253. He is a much better blocker than when he got here but IMO gave up a lot in the passing game.

I'm excited to see play action. We barely used it last year which was ridiculous. When we had some nasty play action everything opened up and the Offense steamrolled.

Hopefully these 15-17 year olds' practice reports are more accurate than the ones UU wrote.
