I never said anything about a #1 and #2 QB getting hurt.
I believe you meant "if Brandon gets hurt" you said "Austin".

I'll have to disagree with you on this point. Losing a viable backup QB when no others currently on campus have proven they can compete on the SEC level could most certainly impact this team.

I'm not trying to turn this in to a H'ville level debate but Mitchell hasn't shown he can be a SEC QB either.

Yea...Austin allen, brandon allen & brandon mitchell. Could be confusing.

My point remains the same though. Not talking aboutu #1 and #2 Qb getting hurt.

We had a decent back up and now we don't.

Id rather have Mitchell out there if Brandon Allen got hurt than anyone else.

Umm Allen would be the #1 and Mitchell the #2.

Then you misread what I said when you replied to me.

I said Austin would likely beat out Mitchell by midseason anyways.

So depth chart of 1. Brandon Allen 2. Austin Allen 3. Brandon Mitchell.

Not a fan of a true freshman being the backup in the SEC with already thin squad offensively.

Meh, he's better than Mitchell and already has about as much experience at QB.

AJ Derby has thrown as many D1 college passes as Mitchell I bet, or very close.

Hard to compare a high school QB to someone who plays in the SEC.

Duwop will come in and snag that 2 spot. He is going to be a good one.

No it's not, one is a HS QB and the other was a WR last year.

Austin has taken more reps at QB than Mitchell in the last year.

So what happened with Keante Minor? Was he really that bad at WR that he got totally buried? I know they tried him at RB too so I figured the WR thing must not have been going that well, but what's the deal? He was a really good high school athlete. Was it an athleticism issue or an effort issue?

His opinion is always right don't worry. Obviously Mitchell isn't going to be here long term. Would've liked to have him behind BA this year just in case BA goes down though.

Personally I think he bulked up to much. He was like 225 or so on the spring roster. Once they tried him at RB you could tell he was on the way out the door.

I can't say that I am completely shocked. I would have liked him to stay for depth reasons, but I can see why he is leaving. I wish him luck.

Today is a bitter sweet day for my family and I. I'm grateful for the opportunity that Arkansas has given me over the last four year. We became a family and had great moments as well as tough times. I've learned a lot about myself and realize that sometimes things and circumstances change. At this time I'd like to say thank you dearly to all of my fans & The Razorback Nation for all of your support, professionalism, and prayers. I leave behind some of the BEST MEN I have ever known in my Razorback teammates. I could have never asked to play with a better group of guys! I will truly miss the relationships and brotherhood I have personally and collectively as a team with each and everyone of you! I'm beginning a new journey and looking forward to seeing where It leads me. God is and has always been in control of my life. All things work together for the good of them who love The Lord. I also would like to thank my entire family for always supporting me in every aspect of my life! Without you all none of this would have ever been possible! My parents Bobby & Margaret Mitchell, my brother& sister Kedrien and Keshia along with my grandparents, have all help me make this tough decision to leave a great organization, school, and family behind and further my academic as well as my football career at another prestigious institution. Again I want to say thank you to all the Razorback Nation for helping me become the young man I am today. I wish nothing but the best for the University of Arkansas and I appreciate their professionalism throughout this entire process. God Bless!

Sincerely,
Brandon D. Mitchell

These two tweets seem to shed some light on the situation

@Kurt_Voigt_AP: I'll miss working with Mitchell, a pro's pro with us media types. However, he lost the UA locker room after his suspension last season.

@Kurt_Voigt_AP: Before the spring, I figured Mitchell was the team's choice ... Was quickly (and privately) told by teammates that wasn't the case.

Seems whatever he did last fall pissed off people.

I'm going to wait until I pass judgement on Brandon Allen. Remember the circumstances we saw him play last season. He came in for a hurt TW8 and was forced to pass the ball the whole 2nd half due to some crappy play-calling. Paul Petrino took absolutely no pressure off of him when the game was obviously slipping away by continuing to call passing plays when Allen was obviously uncomfortable. Then, he gets his first start against Alabama. We saw how that went. Now, he has to learn an entirely new system. I didn't get to watch the spring game, but from what I hear he wasn't spectacular. I'll give him some time before I start worrying too much about him
