There's no doubt our ranking will drop some by the time the final standings come out, but it is worth noting that on 247, our avg. rating for the 15 commits in this class so far is 0.8775.

how does this compare to recent avg ratings and final rankings?
2021: 0.8719, #25
2020: 0.8674, #30
2019: 0.8854, #23

2017: 0.8602, #27

Way better perspective on the situation

Probably 7-10 in sec

7-10 in the SEC should be considered a win if that's the case.

if you look historically at the average player rating over time, on a 4 year rolling basis, we stayed in the middle of the SEC under Nutt. When Petrino got here, that fell to about 11th in conference on a 4 year rolling basis and stayed there with Bert, bouncing between 9th and 13th on a single class basis.

We effectively lost ground against Auburn, South Carolina and the Mississippi Schools in recruiting in that timeframe. Solid recruiting in recent years has pulled us back to about even with ole Miss and Miss St, while teams like Auburn, South Carolina and Tennessee have fallen back some and are catchable. Taking avg. player rating for 2022's classes at face value will have our avg. talent pull ahead of Miss. St and basically even with South Carolina, Kentucky and Ole Miss heading into next year's season, with a fairly narrow gap below Tennessee and Auburn.

Making the program respectable again is the first step which Pittman is doing. If he can start just simply recruiting middle-tier SEC again, we will be in very good shape for the next coach that takes over.

Nice post. I was interested in 2008 as I think it's the best recruiting class that we've had (that I can remember)

2008: 0.847, #25

In terms of average it's one of the worst classes over the past 15 years. This class included:

Tyler Wilson
Jarius Wright
Joe Adams
Jerico Nelson
Greg Childs
Dennis Johnson
Tramain Thomas
Tenarius Wright
Chris Gragg

One thing I notice there is not all of those guys were highly rated but most came from in state. Obviously we will always need out of state talent but there’s something to be said about kids who grow up wearing hog jerseys watching us on Saturday and who cares more about the name on the front than the name on the back

yeah, also goes to show you that you can definitely out-coach and/or out-develop your opponents. I think Pittman can certainly out-develop most when it comes to the OL, which is promising, just like Petrino could out-coach and out-develop when it came to QB/WR's.

What is most promising going forward, after actually bringing in some decent classes again, is when you look at the difference in talent on our roster (4 yr rolling avg player rating), we are getting to as favorable a point, relative to opponents rosters, as we have been in a decade to teams like Auburn, Florida, Miss. St, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tenn and Vandy. The negative is that in recent years, Georgia, LSU, A&M and even Kentucky are in better relative shape than us than they ever have been in terms of avg. player rating.

But again, at least we are moving forward

It doesn't matter how you recruit when some of your higher recruits either don't or can't produce on the field.

We miss evaluating on a bunch of our higher recruits but hopefully Pittman can develop and retain those he gets in the program over the past two coaches.

a lot of that can be chalked up to roster construction too. if you pull in 5 blue-chip WR's, but you have to start true freshman on the OL and your QB's throw 3-4 picks a game, it is obviously a problem for the offense but defense as well.

We finally have line depth on this roster, great WR's and very solid LB's/DB's. However the biggest wildcard for the whole '21 season is what we get at QB play.

I've noticed it too, but not wanting to do anything about it unless it spirals and starts to negatively effect the board for awhile.

Sategna's dad only moved to Fayetteville recently to become a U of A asst track coach, but Isaiah spent most of his life growing up watching his dad coach for Texas. In addition, his dad recently resigned for "personal" reasons, and was abruptly fired at Texas for ethics reasons before that.

So really no ties to Akansas other than the last 2-3 years

Both his parents went to LSU

It is an interesting trend going back to the mid 2000s where the recruiting services rank the #1 player in the state. It has ofen been the most likely to go to school out of state, seems to be the deciding factor between a close #1 and #2 going back to the kid who went to sit the bench at Clemson when Petrino was here.

I'm not sure if the still give bonus points for #1s in the team rankings, I remember Gus racking them up with state #1s like Kheil Frazier who some how was ranked ahead of Brandon Allen with it not even being close. Yet Allen has made a career in the NFL while the last news of Frazier was his transferring to ouchita.

Yeah, it feels like it happens way more often than not that the #1 goes out of state. The only one I really feeling like we missed out on was KJ Hill though

That Frazier kid from Springdale ended up being a rotational player for bama’s d line would’ve definitely helped us out, but yeah him and kj were the only real misses. Michael dyer was a stud but he wouldn’t have got his act together here any better than he did at auburn I don’t think
