Sounds like Smith is high on Bama, really not understanding what the draw is there.

Eh, Oats is a good coach and they run a fun style of offense for a guard that is fairly in line with where the future of basketball is heading.

Actually Oats and Muss are a lot alike in the way they look at metrics.

As long as we get him on campus I think its Kentucky or us with Kentucky having a significant advantage.

Well 5 star Kijani Wright commits today. That would be a great get on the 1% chance it happens.

Picking between USC, Texas, Stanford and Arkansas. Probably not leaving his home state.

247 article on Nick Smith with him talking about his options
quote:

Alabama: “I like their style of play and coach Oats is a great coach to play for. I really just like how they play and how coach Oats treats his players. I can see myself fitting in. There's been a couple guards this year and last year since coach Oats has been at Alabama that made it to the league. There's been like six players from Alabama that went to the league and two went lottery so getting to learn from him would be a great deal and I'm just trying to build a relationship with them.”

Auburn: “With Coach Bruce Pearl, I like the way he treats his players and players in general. He's a great and loyal guy and his style of play would fit me in terms of me trying to go to the league.”

Arkansas: “They want me to come in and be the focal point. Eric Musselman and his staff have a great vibe to them and I feel like it would be a great thing to look at in terms of me going to pros.”

Kansas: “I talk with coach Bill Self and the coaching staff like everyday. It's very rare for Kansas guards to go one and done but he actually feels like I can come in and do it. So just talking with him about my future and playing in his system would be a great thing in terms of going pro.”

Kentucky: “I like their style of play and I feel like it could help me get to where I need to go in order to go pro. Coach Cal has had a couple guards this decade that have come out of Kentucky that have not only gone to the league but have been successful there. In terms of that it plays a big role because it would help.”

Oklahoma: “Coach Porter Moses started recruiting ever since he first got the job. When he got the job he offered me on the spot. He feels like I can really come in there and be a focal point in his program and potentially go to the league after.”

Overtime Elite: “My coach went over to Over Time Elite so it made sense for me to look at it. I had a zoom call with them last week so I'm just hearing what they have to say and see if it makes sense.”

NBL: “I actually have a zoom call here coming up with them. I'm not really sure if I want to go pro or stay in college so I don't really have a lot of information on that.”

Wright to USC. Sure hope we get Walsh because he could go play with Wright at USC now and he got the USC offer he wanted.

I know people don't like moral victories but kind of crazy we even got this guy on campus

Him coming out with a list is a little concerning to me but the people who are still connected feel good about him. I might be wrong but I think people have discussed how Walsh actively wears Arkansas gear as well.

Four-star forward Jordan Walsh really made strides in his game this summer. A 6-foot-7 long and athletic high upside prospect out of Cedar Hill (Texas) Walsh saw a lot of new high major offers come his way and made significant leaps on the rankings of most outlets in the industry.

"I feel like I had a good summer," says Walsh. "I went from a four-star to a five-star on ESPN and also had new schools talk to me that I really like and really want to consider."

Walsh also knocked out three official visits with Arkansas, Oklahoma, and TCU this summer. He broke down his thoughts on each program with 247Sports:

Arkansas: "The school is close to home being that it is within driving distance. The coaches have crazy energy during practice. You can tell they are really a family over there. Their main pitch for me is how they crafted Moses Moody for the next level. So now I am interested in seeing how he does and if they really prepared him. They feel I can be efficient in pick and roll, in transition, and while making reads when I beat my defender. They feel they can teach me things while they use me to my strengths."

Oklahoma: "David Patrick has been recruiting me. He introduced me to Porter Moser and now he has been the leading recruiter for me. They feel they can use me in a variety of ways to help my game mature. He wants me to be his first NBA player. It is awesome that he has that belief in me to be an NBA draft pick after two years in Norman. One of my friends CJ Noland is there. I enjoy watching the work he is putting in to earn playing time as a freshman there."

TCU: "They were my first official visit. It is a good school that is close to home. The coaching staff is really close with me and my family. They have some players that I know in Mike Miles and Micah Peavy. They say I fit their offense because I am versatile. They feel they can use my versatility to expand my game to get me to the NBA."

Due to him picking up a variety of offers from the likes of Kansas, Ohio State, Oregon, and Vanderbilt this summer, Walsh is still figuring things out in terms of planning the visits he wants to take in the fall.

"There have been a lot of new schools that have come in and replaced the old schools in the mix," says Walsh. "So I am still narrowing my list down to five or less so I can take those visits."

Walsh is aiming to sign late after the early signing period. He was originally planning to sign in November, but with the recent pick-up in his recruitment, he wants to break each program down to find the place where he fits best.

A stock rising prospect in the 2022 class, Walsh is ranked the No. 54 overall prospect in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

I do still feel like we're in a good spot, he has a great relationship with Muss that will be hard for anyone else to beat.

We need to have another good season with him signing late now and keep this momentum and buzz going. OU is predicted last or 2nd to last in BIG12, TCU is also at the bottom.

I can't see Oregon or Ohio State due to location, so only Kansas I would worry about I think of the new offers.

I don't get Kansas with TX and OU moving to the SEC though. At some point the $$$ and Likeness Funds will be more abundant in the sec.

But, Bill Self, is Bill Self....

Not really looking great with remaining targets in this upcoming class. Dominating the portal is going to be important next off season.

Pearl will get him to Auburn. No way in hell would anyone play for Auburn and the sleazy salesman unless offered the big bucks.

Bryson Warren signs with Overtime Elite so that's a hit to the 2023 potential class.

Muss' recruiting was rolling until NIL began. These top bball recruits especially seem to be looking for big, semi under-the-table corporate payments like what Nike did with Ware and what Fed Ex has recently done at Memphis.

Is it kind of against the rules for a company to directly bribe a recruit via "sponsorship deals?" Yes. But it's also going on and no one is doing anything about it.

At Memphis, it was openly reported that their recent big 5 star Commits were landed in part because of Fed Ex's involvement.

quote:

NIL money is reportedly going to flow toward prized recruit Emoni Bates as part of an agreement between the University of Memphis and FedEx, according to multiple reports from sources being retweeted often by fans of schools Bates spurned.

The NCAA bans any pay-for-play, as well as using NIL as a recruitment lever, so Memphis being complicit in a deal to funnel cash from FedEx to Bates – and fellow recruit Jalen Duren – would appear to qualify as a violation.

A bigger question is whether the NCAA will ever bother to enforce rules that most schools have broken in spirit consistently since the end of June when “student-athletes” were allowed to profit from their brand value.

NIL has changed that game substantially.  If FedEx’s tab for securing Bates and Duren’s commitments have been accurately estimated, they each have seven-figures coming to them for playing (and studying) at Memphis.  That princely sum is worth fighting for in court.

What does fed ex give a shite if they have to spend a measley $3 million to get 3 stud recruits every year? Same with. Nike. It's like pocket change to those companies. Bball especially is easy to fund b/c the rosters are so small and how impactful just one or two players can be.

Not saying Arkansas and Muss will never be able to compete, but until one of the Fortune 500 companies in Arkansas steps up, and it becomes an open secret among recruits, this shite will continue to happen.

Ware turned down $900K from Overtime Elite to go to Oregon. Nike paying in big promises.

That's the thing with Nike and Oregon, they can sell kids on just the potential of a big ad deal after 1 year in college and possibly not even dish out much during their actual playing days at the college.

Sign the kid, shake his hand and give him a wink-wink "hey, maybe we can do some direct business after your out of school" type of deal, and not even remotely violate the few NIL rules actuay on the ncaa books like Memphis did.
