Last fall, Austin Nunez checked in at just 5-foot-10 and was your average small-ball sharpshooter. Fast forward to now, the four-star incoming junior stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs over 170-pounds, and has landed 10+ high-major offers since last year.

The Texas native holds offers from Baylor, LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Memphis, Oklahoma State, others.

Nunez first appeared on the court this summer in July when his AAU program, Texas Hardwork, made its return to the court. He was impressive as he was all season long during his sophomore year campaign.

In his first game back he hit six threes and was extremely impressive and it drew the attention of Virginia’s Tony Bennett who now is in full pursuit of Nunez. Mind you, this was three months ago but Nunez has kept that same flow going entering his junior campaign.

How about a program like Arkansas, you virtually met with your mother and the staff recently?

”Arkansas I like them too, I like the way they play, it’s fast and I think I’m a good fit for that. They like how I am in the pick and roll and my shooting ability. I like Coach Musselman and Coach Patrick, they are both great guys, and also everyone on staff has texted me to give me advice to better my game.”

For WBB but Ladyback signee Jersey Wolfenbarger (6'5"!) landed on the McDonald's All American team. She used to be a point guard but a massive growth spurt has put her into the can play just about any position spot.

Supposedly she has a full court game and can bang inside for rebounds while stroking the 3. This is the sort of player we used to assume would go out of state to a major power.

Nick Smith has Auburn, UNC, Kentucky as warm on 247, Hogs are under cool. His one and only CB came in last week to Kentucky by Travis Branham.

We need Smith and Ford to keep this train going.

Hate to see this with Smith. Any details on why he’s cool on us? Doesn’t he keep rising in the rankings as well?

If Moody can lock in as a lottery pick, don’t understand what is stopping this kid. He could come right in and be the guy.

Why is Auburn even in the mix? They’re garbage. So tired of their nonsense.

Some guy on 247 connected to the AAU circuit in Arkansas says there’s some heavy influencers in that realm that don’t like Arkansas and are steering these kids away. Who knows if that’s actually true or not but the AAU world is extremely shady so it wouldn’t surprise me.

He never says. I’m assuming it would be easy to connect the dots, if he did.

Safe to assume something is up when UK, Auburn and Baylor are in the mix.

Wouldn't blame a kid going to UNC and even UK, but the other 2? Come on.

So, basically, Arkansas is not paying off the right people I'd guess, right? Auburn and Baylor just wreak of sleaziness. They're on the UK level, oy with no pedigree, which makes their recruiting even more slimy.

No way anyone would play at those schools unless they were offered something.

Two fold problem.

Elite AAU players are told repeatidly they are above Arkansas and get steered towards the college coaches who stroke the egos of the aau game.

Meanwhile during highschool play the HS coaches are telling the same players they are above Arkansas because Arkansas failed to offer their borderline swac players they had in the past.

This has been a problem since Nolan told the aau guys to frick off in the mid-90s and didn't find space for lesser talented Arkansas kids compared to the New York kids he was signing.

Fun fact about the aau ego stroking game is hiring one of their own is usually worse than hiring a non game player, jealous bunch of fragile egos they are.

The question would be is the aau game actually worth it? Cal hasn't been hanging banners in rupp at a rapid pace, drew took over a baylor program with players facing the death penalty, but no real hardware to show for it. Pearl had a favorable bracket one year, but I'm pretty he has a losing record to Arkansas at auburn (don't feel like looking that up). So you basically have the same tiers, blue bloods have the elites steered towards them, other aau arse kissers (baylor/auburn/etc) have players steered towards them to spite the non arse kissers. Is it worth the effort to recruit these players and take on the risk associated with others making decisions for the players, or recruit the guys you want that fit what you want from a player without all the off the court drama?

Arkansas had only had a couple players with others making decisions for them, the most recent one that comes to mind was talked into transferring to never be heard of again.

He got Covid and for some reason it caused him to lose all the hair on his body. Read that in an article a while back.
