Mark Mitchell 247

quote:

Mark Mitchell, a five-star small forward out of Mission (Kan.) Bishop Miege, updated 247Sports on where his recruitment is at and said seven programs are making him a priority -- Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma State and UCLA.

"It’s been pretty good," he said of how his recruiting process is going. "I’ve just been talking to everybody and seeing what they have to offer. Just hearing out different programs."

The 6-foot-8 and 185-pound forward, who is currently the No. 14 overall prospect in the 2022 247Sports Composite Rankings, broke down his thoughts and what he has been hearing from each program.

Arkansas: "Just how they developed their program. They have a new staff there with coach [Eric] Musselman so I just have been trying to get to know those guys. They’ve been harping on how they can help develop players with the guys they’ve had like Earl Boykins, just the new recruiting class they have there too so they should be good for the next couple of years and then guys like me can come in and help that program. They’re kind of new in what they’re doing so I’m just trying to see where they’re going. I think they’re going in the right direction with the guys like Moses Moody and that class coming in this year."

Trey Alexander

quote:

“Coach Muss is a great person and a great coach,” noted Alexander. “He knows how to develop players and get them to the NBA. He has shown me film and how he helps players get better. Also, I know he cares for his players a lot. I like that the entire staff builds a great relationship with their players.”

Looks like a three team race between Oklahoma, Ok St and Arkansas

Oklahoma looks like they have the lead and you would have to think losing Chris Crutchfield was a big hit to us since he has some many good ties to that state.

Winners

Arkansas: It is a one-person class. But it is a special class. Not only was Slocum the best transfer available, but the new arrival who is immediately eligible brings experience with the process of adjusting to new surroundings. She went through all of this before when she transferred from Maryland to Oregon State. That's no small consideration with all of the added uncertainty transfers will face amidst a pandemic and its effect on university life. Without Slocum, Arkansas might have struggled to duplicate its first winning SEC record in nearly a decade. With the guard, who complements Chelsea Dungee and eases the loss of both Alexis Tolefree's scoring and A'Tyanna Gaulden's playmaking, the Razorbacks can aspire to even more.

Ranking the contenders: Four-star forward Daimion Collins

4. ARKANSAS

quote:

Arkansas will likely reload with another onslaught of talented transfers next spring. However, Eric Musselman has been adamant about making a greater investment in the high school ranks, which is reflected by his top-10 class that he will enroll this fall. It should become the norm that the Hawgs will bring to campus at least one heavily respected prospect each year and Collins could be next.

Ranking the Contenders: PF DaRon Holmes

6. ARKANSAS

quote:

After hiring Dave Patrick earlier this month, Arkansas has offered several West Coast seniors, including Holmes. The Hawgs are playing catch-up in Holmes' recruitment, but Patrick does bring an established relationship with Holmes to Fayetteville. Arkansas will need to replace a number of its frontcourt talents after the season, which should give Eric Musselman a greater selling point when it comes to luring Holmes to the SEC.

Maybe he can pull a Broderick Green and recover in 2 months from ACL surgery

I couldn't believe how quickly Broderick returned from that. Very unusual.

Bit under the radar but I've seen where most people expect him to be a top 10 ranked JUCO when he gets rated. Some say he's closer to 6'10 now too. I think it's the first JUCO Muss has recruited.

Navarro JUCO F Akol Mawein commits.

He's an Australian native and played previously at Southwest Christian Academy.

quote:

“He’s a Top 10 JC player nationally,” the source recently said of Arkansas’s interest in Mawein. “I would think so (that the Hogs would pursue Mawein) with his size, length, and shooting.”

Mawein was previously committed to UC-Riverside, where new Hogs associate head coach David Patrick — he too is a native of Australia — was head coach for two seasons before leaving for Arkansas on July 1.

A week following Patrick’s departure, Mawein de-committed from UC-Riverside — on July 8 — at which point Patrick and Musselman began recruiting him to Arkansas.

quote:

A 6-foot-9 power forward that brings great size, length, and versatility to the floor, Mawein was born in South Sudan but grew up in Australia. After graduating from Southwest Christian Academy, in Little Rock, Mawein enrolled at Navarro where he averaged 13.5 points and five rebounds this past winter, while making close to 33-percent of his perimeter tries.
