Agreed if we are just talking about arm strength. I'm not sure Storey could make this throw. Hicks has major issues though.
45-50 yards seems like the longest pass in air I have seen Hicks make

Plus side of Hicks is that he knows the offense already so we could open it up more next year. Downside is that he’s clearly not as talented as Buechele and may get exposed big time in SEC play.
My guess is he would do much better than Ty but not as well as our fans would need him to be to stave off the crazy.

My thoughts are a bit outside the box but hear me out.
What if the Hicks decision (if he does come) is a move so we have a capable QB for spring practices who already knows the offense and they bring in another QB May-June who might be more highly thought of to compete for the starting job and not available for spring practice at this time or decides to move on after spring ball at his current school.
All along I’ve seen our staff trying to flip and turnover the roster to get puzzle pieces to fit the system. I can’t see it as only an add Hicks and done option with our QB room.
Kelley and Storey are gone. Hyatt was fifth string last year. I expect he’s here until he graduates and he moves on. Noland will be baseball, John Stephen is the only other scholarship QB we have for spring ball and walkons were thinned down.
They need someone to get reps for our WRs and to practice.
Hicks
Noland- playing baseball & practicing football?
Jones
Jefferson- enrolls in June from HS
Hyatt

Agreed, I don't think there is much difference between both of them. I actually see alot of similarities when watching both. His best year was 2017 when he had two NFL receives on the team. They helped to make his numbers look better than they normally would have looked otherwise. At this point, it would be a disappointing not to get Shane.

quote:Not sure why you're laughing. If he's got more arm it's by about 5 yards. They're basically the same QB except Hicks throws out less ducks.
No he doesn’t
There is a noticable lack of velocity on his throws.

I read elsewhere that Morris said he would be open to taking two grad transfer QBs, so I think that's a very real possibility

quote:Bingo. He threw for 1000 less yards and 14 less TDs last year than in 2017. Hard to believe it was all Chad's playcalling.

Still believe it is a net positive when compared to Ty but like I said earlier, he has plenty of issues as a QB.

It's a net positive strictly because he knows the offense. That alone is a nice upgrade. It's still underwhelming if this is our plan though.

If that's Chadillac's plan then he should relate that to Pick 6 Hicks. If not then Chadillac is a lying MF.

It's funny, you go to the Louisville board and they all want Hicks pretty bad while our fans just complain.

I just know this teams has more underlying issues than QB. Most of these issues have been addressed through recruiting. The one that has plagued us for years has been LB, and it will continue to hurt us from here. I would just rather take 2 more LBs, than take a half arse upgrade at QB in hicks.

I know he’s planning on playing baseball in the spring, but I wouldn’t give up on Noland just yet. I personally believe we will see huge improvement from him.

Update from 247:

ARKANSAS AND LOUISVILLE BATTLING FOR TRANSFER QB (1/13/19 9:25 AM EST)
A source that's spent time with grad-transfer quarterback Ben Hicks on the Arkansas campus would be surprised if the Razorbacks didn't land the three-year starter who's thrown for 9,081 yards and 71 touchdowns at SMU.
Hicks will have one year to play at the school of his choosing. He visited Louisville earlier this weekend before arriving in Fayetteville where the Lone Star State is still currently hanging out.
Both the Cardinals and Razorbacks are pushing hard for a grad-transfer quarterback. A source that spent time with Hicks at Louisville felt good about it but that was before Hicks made it to the SEC campus.
The industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranked 6-foot-2, 203-pound Hicks as the nation's No. 28 pro-style passer in the 2015 class. He led Waco( Texas) Midway to a 12-1 record as a senior, completing 67 percent of his passes for over 3,500 yards and 28 touchdowns to just six interceptions.

Jalen Catalon announcing this Friday at 3:15 PM
If I remember correctly our staff already has a visit scheduled with him this Thursday. Should be in good shape

Former SMU quarterback Ben Hicks is transferring to the Arkansas Razorbacks, sources have confirmed to HawgSports. He announced his decision on Monday afternoon, a day after leaving Fayetteville on an official visit.
Hicks is a graduate-transfer with one year of eligibility remaining after spending three seasons with the Mustangs, two of which were under Chad Morris, who is now the head coach at Arkansas. Hicks will begin classes at the UA this weekand will go through spring drills with the Hogs beginning February 26.
The Razorbacks had long been considered the favorites to land Hicks from the day he decided to leave SMU. Arkansas was involved for other grad-transfer quarterbacks, including Kelly Bryant (Missouri) and Tyree Jackson (NFL Draft).
