I never got to that point last year. I wanted to give him time to get a veteran group and see if they progressed. I had no desire to get into all that shite again this year, but we've already done it.

He's done. He's a dead man walking. By the end of the non-con schedule we'll be 6-6 at best and will finish way under .500.

If Byrne is as serious a basketball guy as people make him out to be this will be a clean break. If not, look forward to 2019-2020 being just as exciting and fun as the last year of Grant and Gottfried were.

I really wanted Avery to work out.

We underperformed last year and the program has no momentum going forward.

It’s Groundhog Day....Again.

I wanted him gone before that lucky arse win vs A&M in the SECT. We got an NCAAT win for the first time since '06, but it took Kennedy not playing press and Sexton's buzzer beater for us to do so.

Sorry, Avery is a sorry HC. LSU, Tennessee, and Auburn are also all improving.

So true.
But what's sad is that the basketball season lasts over a month past Groundhog day.
And we've got to endure the entire winter of mediocrity. At best.

It’s time to end this.

We know he’s not a great coach, but the hope was he’d bring fire to the program & buckle in some 5-Stars we aren’t used to getting.

Collin Sexton one year, then Kira is all we got. Every other player on this roster is complete horse shlt. We don’t have 1 player that can hit a 15 foot jumper consistently. This roster is an absolute embarrassment.

And John Petty. Holy shlt what a failure. He’s rumored to have a pro career. I don’t think I’d even want him on my high school team. He can’t shoot. He can’t dribble. Defense? Please. What do people see in him? He’s awful.

Fire Avery Johnson. This is pathetic.

Wow. I saw the halftime score and figured this would be an easy win. Helped my son with his homework and checked my Instagram feed later to see . . . a come-from-behind loss at home?

WTF happened?

I think I'm done already.

You can’t excuse the inexcusable.

I was hoping Avery would work out, but its like Groundhog Day.

Serious question; what is it about our program that we can’t seem to turn the corner? Is it just the coaching hires? Is it facilities or institutional commitment? Mixture of all of it?

Not hating on the kids at all but I don’t see Petty and Jones being NBA ready like some are projecting . Hell I am not sure they shoujd be starting. They may turn into great players but the NBA talk is a joke right now

John petty and dazon Ingram just baffle me. These are former Mr. Alabama winners and they don’t know how to do anything well. Yes players are better in college, but they don’t do anything in space well. I just don’t understand how they’ve turned out to be so terrible.

I love basketball !! But Dammit CAJ is making it more difficult by the day. I’ve seen more coordinated efforts by monkeys with a football....

Yeah, this game pretty much made me lose all hope in Avery. You should never lose when you have a 21 point halftime lead. Period. But to do so against Georgia State is next level retarded. As much as we hate it though, I think you can expect 2 more years of Avery. He’s getting a pass for this season since we won a tournament game last season and may get another year on top of that because we’ll likely be an improved team next year just due to the experience. In order for us to fire him after this season, he has to have an unbelievably terrible season (probably worse than just a losing season) or some scandal is revealed (perhaps proof of Sexton being paid).

Jones played 29 minutes and made zero FG's and was 1 of 6 from the FT line, which was his only points of the game. And he is a starter. He did get 5 rb's with no TO's. Does this type stat deserve to be a starter?

You keep blaming the players, but Avery brought those players in. And, most of them were solid to good recruits - some of them known for their shooting. Now, watch how, instead of getting better and better with experience like the mid-major players who consistently kick our arse, they get worse and worse under this staff's tutelage.

It's the coaching. Not the players. I'm not saying we should be final four bound with these guys, but there's a lot of experience, and enough talent that we shouldn't look like 10 year olds in a church league.

Bad coaching hires, letting coaches linger for a year after it was time to let them go, and just an overall bad basketball culture. Fans at least show up when there's a quality product on the floor, but the administration and boosters have been sending mixed messages for years and years. Football will always be king, but the same can be said for Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn, all of whom display a significantly stronger commitment to basketball than we do. Aside from overpaying for coaches, literally everything we do regarding basketball is second rate. We did a half arse renovation of Coleman like 10 years ago. The upcoming renovation of Coleman is taking a backseat to the totally unnecessary renovations to BDS. Student seating has been a major issue since even before I enrolled almost 15 years ago. We allow literally hundreds of empty seats to be displayed on television every time we play because the administration is too chickenshit to tell the people who buy them solely for TidePride purposes to sit in them, sell them to someone who will, lose them, or STFU when someone moves down into them in the middle of the 1st half. It's all just a mess.

This. Our player development under the last two regimes has been atrocious. Grant knew how to teach defense that’s all. Avery knows how to coach PGs. He helped Retin, then had Colin and now Kira. Outside of that, our roster is worse than the day they stepped on campus by a big margin. They don’t know how to coach. Fire the whole bunch.
