Will we start giving McClellan more meaningful snaps?

He was impressive yesterday. I like B-Rob but McClellan IMO is a much better option for the #2 spot.

He looked very good but remember it was against a gassed, understrength Kentucky defense.

With Sanders out, he'll get more snaps and we'll see how he does.

If he can pass pro and pick up blitzes. The reason guys like Shaun Alexander and Derrick Henry didn't get a lot of snaps their freshman year

As others have said, it's about knowing blitz pick ups and ball security. Teams going forward will be a major test for a true freshman in those categories. McClellan is a great player but we really don't know how he would do in crunch time against a team like Auburn or Florida.

everybody always talks blitzes and pass protection in these convos. then my mind goes back to all those delayed and regular blitzes on tua that damien harris missed. i wonder if being an upper class starter negates getting pulled for getting your star qb decked by a blitzer you missed. because it happened basically every game. but then a young guy is not getting any pt because he dont pick up blitzes? things that make you go hmm....

I thought Harris was our best back at picking up stuff

It will be Harris and Robinson show... the freshmen will get a chance to play more going forward.

The only thing that's probably not great about our running back situation is that Harris and Robinson are both leaving. In an ideal world having at least Trey Sanders back with a little more gameday experience would have been nicer. What can you do? Our offense next season is going to be a real work in progress at just about all positions.

Who said Robinson is leaving?

we all know they've been edited down. look, y'all can deny it all you want, but it did happen. not saying harris missed every block. just basically every game, there was a time or two or three where he did whiff.

Remember this year doesn’t count against Robinson’s eligibility. He could come back but being a RB who knows?

Not me, but I would assume his decision will be based on how much more he expects he would play. If he thinks he would be the #1 next year then I would think he would think hard about coming back to improve his stock (NH definitely has and I didn’t expect him to). If he expects to still be a mostly rotational guy then probably best to just sign as an UFA and try and catch on somewhere (assuming he has his degree).

yep, KY had quit by the time McClellan got into the game.
But cns and the 2 freshmen are both talented.

Both those freshmen backs looked legit. Low center of gravity, great bursts, good power. They almost looked like clones. Love BRob, but he just doesn't have the goods at this level.

He's averaging 5.3 YPC and is 3rd in the SEC in yards per attempt after contact (3.95) (Najee is 2.93, FYI). 170 of his 230 yards rushing came after contact (74%) (Najee is 51%, FYI). He averages a 10+ yard run 19% of the time (Najee does it at 18%, FYI).

He's been fantastic this season and certainly can play at this level, and will probably play at the next level.

BRob's real weakness as a player, and probably the biggest reason he doesn't play more than he does, is the fact that he brings 0 to the table as a pass catcher. He's a two down back having to split carries with an every down back.

He's just a pure handcuff rather than a change of pace. Have no doubt he could step in and be successful in Najee's role. I think it was A-Day last year that he caught several balls, but seems it was an aberration.

There is some deep rooted passive hate towards BRob going back to last year too. He's been productive when asked, but his mistakes are magnified because he has fewer opportunities.

It happens with every back we have until they start and get the normal load.

Damian Harris, Najee, B-Rob, T. Sanders

They start as freshmen running in garbage time behind the #2 OL against stacked boxes and have terrible numbers and somehow people just decide they suck. Then they start and blow up and all of a sudden they don't suck anymore.
