Third down stops are too uncommon this season.

Sure hope so. Hope the crowd makes it a little more difficult for LSU . Time to step up .

If we play like we are capable on first and second down, third will take care of itself

Their defense is in the same boat. They give up a first on 32% and we do on 34%. Would think home field will provide us a slight edge here

Listened to the LSU game position breakdowns by the Bama Beat podcast yesterday by Clint Lamb and Brett Hudson. The statement they made, that I tend to agree with, is that LSU's defense will be the worst unit on the field. That does not bode well for them in this game. It will come down to who can get more stops on 3rd down as you say, and Bama - at least on paper - should be able to get more defensive stops than LSU. Both offenses I would say are a wash, extreme talent on both.

I don't think Bama has begun to show the type of stunts and blitzes that will be dialed up for this game. Watching LSU go empty on 3rd downs most of the time is something I'm sure has been discussed and dissected ad nauseam these past two weeks. I'm seeing tight, tight, man to man and pressure galore.

I think we'll pick him off twice. Burrow has no qualms about throwing into tight coverage but they probably haven't faced a single corner the caliber of our two on the outside. Carter and Mckinney need big games though and I'd rather not see Jared Mayden tasked with covering anyone saturday. Hope Battle has been getting those reps

Was bored last night and rewatched the 30 minute YouTube replay of the Arkansas game. And good god, Terrell Lewis is an absolute monster. I know, I know.. it’s Arkansas. But that man is a wrecking ball. Christian Harris played extremely well too. He’s much further along than Shane Lee at this point.

I am cautiously optimistic about the performance from the defense this game. We need the secondary to play lights out, as this is far and away the best group of receivers we will see unless we get a shot at Clemson.

From a pass rush standpoint, I think 24, 33 and 58 will give Burrow some problems. But we really, really need 94 to anchor the middle - LSU run game scares me as they are much more balanced this year than they have been since 2013.

They don't realize this. The injuries throughout his career have kind of allowed him to fly under the radar as it pertains to the casual fan.

This was a 5* player coming out of high school. A 6'6" 255 pound edge rusher that's built like a greek statue. I don't want to be overly optimistic but I see no way in hell that Austin frickin Deculus can block him all night. I imagine that Gus sent in the tape from their game over there so hopefully the blatant holding will be penalized early and a message gotten across that it won't be tolerated. They were completely outmatched by Auburn's front but the holding mitigated that. We don't have the dudes inside, but outside of Ohio State there isn't a better edge rushing tandem in the country than the one we've got.

I feel like controlling LSU’s run game (including Burrow’s scrambles) is the key to the game for us. Sure, they’ll get their points & yards but if they’re doing it by controlling the clock & playcount while keeping Tua & Co. off the field then it’s not a good thing.

My post ruffled some feathers. There’s a thread about it on TR. Did y’all know Auburn and Florida have better players in their secondary than us?

Auburn's secondary is not better and that's just a fact, it is actually their weakness. Their front 7 is stout as it comes.

There is Bama then everyone else much further down in the SEC. We have one of the best secondary defenses in the country.

I like our defense to get off the field on third down more than theirs. On 3rd and medium we'll have a distinct advantage because our pass blocking is great. And on the flip side they do not have a combo like Jennings and Lewis

He really is people have no idea because he has been gone so long.

I've seen Lewis in the locker room at the Ole Miss game and the guy is straight muscle, it's insane.

I was quite surprised how well Auburn's secondary matched up against LSU. I knew Auburn's DL was legit.

I thought they played LSU well all around. Honestly pick any other QB in the SEC and they might win.

Considering everything about both teams' offensive and defensive units, I'm confident that we can force them to punt more frequently than they do us.

This game will be about field position, turnovers, red zone execution, and about 6 big plays.

field position

We have the best Punt Return man in the country and also Henry Ruggs on the kickoff. I think we get a nod on ST and that could be one of those things that wins us the game, along with turnovers.

good to read about both.

I was bored for the past couple of nights and went back to watch LSU/Florida and LSU/Auburn because of Joe Burrow. Saban already has mentioned Burrows' skills. He throws well but often under no pressure and he's unafraid of throwing jump balls.

But my greatest concern... he is decently athletic and will play games with the sideline. He made many 3rd and longs on his scrabbling and he doesn't mind taking a hit.

PS - I don't want anyone hurt and I damn sure don't want any of our players penalized/ejected for errors on the edge of the field.

I'm just waiting for the Perine fake punt. His HS coach said he runs a 4.5 - I'd like to find out on 4th and 7 at midfield just how fast he is.
