Where’s the thumper?

Since Saban it seems we always had that thumper LB In the middle, that would shoot the gaps and lay the thump. We are lacking that this year. Moses is usually on skates going backwards as well as Harris just isn’t a middle LB. Have we changed the way we teach them? We are not playing down hill. At least hit the hole and, even if you get stoned you make the play bounce for others to help. I remember last season Lee was usually in the right hole making plays on running downs but was a step slow on coverage but he seemed to know where to be most of the time. We look lost this year. Surely we have a thumper on the team that can step up and fill that role.

All of our ILBs have the same position coach.

Sadly, the thumper got kicked off the team a few years ago and Bama hasn't recruited another one.

It’s a combination of poor instincts by the ILBs, bad technique (coaching) and poor communication of responsibilities. Our ILBs played RB (Moses) and DB/WR (Harris) in high school. Compound that lack of ILB instincts with poor communication on which man to take on options or which gap to shoot, and this is the product - not to mention that Moses seemingly doesn’t love contact and should probably be playing in space more.
All game long last night, the linebackers (all of them; inside and outside) bit so hard on fakes/motion and completely sucked themselves out of the play, leaving massive holes for the UGA RBs to run through (see Moses on their first TD run; over pursued the run, the RB made one cut and gone for 7).

Kaho seems to be the “thumper” type, but he appears lost on the depth chart.

Kirby admitted after the game that Alabama was the more "physical" team. He was correct. That's all the thumping we need to see.

Thumping died with the RPO.

I realize he’s playing as an edge right now but would it not make sense to try Sanders at ILB? I remember Rolando was probably my favorite Saban LB and Sanders has a similar length. Sanders also lays wood from what I see on his film. Kind of hoping they start trying him out there soon
