Let’s imagine that Tua was a Sophmore and had started the past 2 years and Hurts was a freshman. Tua plays like he normally does in mop up duty except it’s as a starter. Good yardage, numerous touchdowns, and a few interceptions. Then Hurts (the freshman) comes in garbage times and does what he does. Scrambles well, breaks some long touchdown runs trucking linebackers, makes a few good throws, and doesn’t turn the ball over. Now let’s say we just played and lost the Iron Bowl. I’m 95% sure most of you would be calling for Hurts. Now I’m on the Tua train personally and have been before it was cool. But I felt like this needed to be said because some of you are acting like you’re brain dead. I can only hope our players have more faith than most of you. I agree there needs to be some changes, but let’s wait and see if they come before we start freaking out. Saban is still the best. Even Bear got beat sometimes.

You aren't wrong.

The backup is always everyone's favorite player, especially after a loss.

Gaff, you could be the backup qb at Bama and you'de be more popular than the starter.
The point being, the backup qb has ALWAYS been, and will always BE the next greatest qb in the world when the starter struggles.

Does that include all the bad with the good you mentioned?

If so, then I’d be fine with him remaining the backup if Tua is doing a good job at QB in your scenario.

Tua has shown that he has a better arm and better pocket awareness. That’s something that can be demonstrated regardless of competition. Tua is just flat out better.

Don’t remember anyone clamoring for Blake Sims while AJ was here.

There were definitely times in 2011 where people refused to shut the door on Phillip Sims.

The coaching staff was still deciding the QB competition in mid September that year. Once McCarron had the role, most everyone was behind him. Certainly by the BCSNCG and after, no one questioned his role.

Would love to see some packages where Tua was QB.. Jalen was Running Back/Slot and then we could be let Bama run some reverses with Pass option, some toss sweeps with Jalen running it... with RPO... just saying, as good a runner that Jalen is, add a PRO QB to the mix who knows what could happen

Won't get an argument out me on that,,,I agree. Tuas mechanics is freaking great AND he has a really really quick release.
