West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez turned down Alabama on Friday, telling his players that he’ll be back for his sixth season with the Mountaineers.

quote:

"We talked a little bit, and they offered the job," Rodriguez said. "I was obviously very flattered and doing my due diligence, but never once did I say I was going to take the job.

"If my agent at the time had said, 'He's very, very interested. I think he's going to do it,' he may have said that, but he was never told by my direction to say that. I don't think he did. But I think there was an assumption that 'He's going to go from West Virginia and take that Alabama job. Are you kidding me?' And I didn't. I never told them I was going to take it."

Louisiana-Monroe has hired Rich Rodriguez as its new associate head coach and offensive coordinator, the school announced Tuesday.

Oh Well

Rich Rod makes me think of everyone drunk one night stand that didn’t get pregnant.

Someone suggested he needs a statue in Tuscaloosa.
I think at least his wife ought to have one

It could just be the back of her as she’s leaving.

All that does is remind me our genius admin had Nick Saban as their second choice (honestly, I bet he was even further down, no doubt we got turned down by more).

I'm in favor of a St Rita statue.

We need to build a statue to him in Tuscaloosa like they have that boll weevil statue in Enterprise.

You need to watch the documentary that came out a few years ago about how it all went down. He was always the first choice, but he turned us down initially.

I honestly thought it was common knowledge that Saban was first choice and after he turned us down, we started looking around. The poster up a few spots is the second person today I’ve heard say that.

Whatever you do, don't put it in the middle of an intersection the way Enterprise did.

I remember catching hell from the Aubs on the old ESPN message boards when RR turned us down. We had already plastered photoshops of RR in Bama gear all over the place. It was a miserable time.

Then magic happened.

I thought Saban didn't turn us down, rather Sexton made it clear to MM that he would not talk to Alabama until Miami's season was over. Some the the boosters were uncomfortable waiting that long and pressed him to go after RRod, and after he turned it down MM told those boosters to let him do his job and he waited until the NFL season was over?

I think it went Saban, Spurrier, Rich Rod, Saban.

Finebaum mentioned that he thought Bobby Petrino was on the list as well.
