We weren't very balanced yesterday.

I think our rushing yardage took a dip primarily because coach is smart enough to use his stable of receivers over his horses at running back. Tua is easily the best quarterback we have had and then some and having a group filled with three or four first round guys at receiver will probably never happen again. This is kind of tongue in cheek but I don't care if we pass the ball 75 percent of the time or more moving forward.

South Carolina has a good front seven and I know we struggled to block them but I still think they will come around. We used the rpo as our primary weapon so the blocking will usually look like it did yesterday when the lineman isn't sure what the play is. I really like the offense. It's fun to watch.

Fans and HC can worry all they want to about how we won games in the past and this doesn't look like it. We've had plenty of games where Bama ran the ball for over 400 yards and seldom passed. Everyone would ooh and aah about how overwhelmingly physical we were.

Tua is just freakin' incredible, You want to stack the box, fine, the best thrower of the football I've ever seen in my lifetime at Tuscaloosa will slice and dice the D with the precision of microsurgery. These passes to Najee that we were taking to the house should be thought of as long handoffs. Just like last week the pass to Henry Ruggs that was a lateral and counted in the rushing was just as much a simply catch and run.

I repeat this is a magnificent offensive run of football. Incredibly efficient and beautiful to behold. The old offensive metrics we are trying to hang on to with both hands does not apply to this team. Tua is so special and we will not see the likes of again, so enjoy this generational talent. I'm as old school as it gets, but we can and I think we will win it all with this team.

And for all the chicken littles of the world, this is not the same one-trick poney offense we were running last season. I'm totally convinced now, you can't stop this offense. A fact everyone will eventually realize as the season progresses.

a much more reasonable take, imo, than "if we can't run vs USC we know we can't run against auburn and lsu."

We are struggling a little in the run game, due both to the line of scrimmage and the running backs, but I am more confident it will come around than some are. There is also the fact that there appear to be no dominant defenses this year in the west division.

I think we ran the ball fairly well against South Carolina. We just didn’t run it that much because our passing game was so on.

Yea I got no problem with taking what the defense gives us, which is exactly what we did yesterday.

Sark was great

SC was very aggressive with their LBs which is why they were slaughtered by the inside slants, but effective stopping the inside run.

Boom decided to die quickly by being aggressive rather than die slowly being passive IMO.

I think balance goes out the window when the defense insists on crowding the LOS to a) stop the run and b) get guys free to pressure Tua. That appeared to be the defensive game plan for the Cocks so we took what was open. I’ve got no problem with throwing for almost 500 yards if that’s what the defense is allowing.

We took an approach like the Patriots yesterday. SC was weak against the pass and had a solid defensive front; so we exploited their weakness all game.

Would more balance be nice? Sure. But there’s no reason to run into their strength just for the sake of it. You take whatever path that gives the best chance of winning.

Agreed. Only had 15 called runs with our top two RB and the average was about 4.5 YPC for those two. We just didn’t try to run. I thought we did ok when we did.

I will say Owens getting blown up into the backfield was evident a couple of times on the run game. Big backs having to dodge that in the backfield and then try to get going again isn’t a recipe for success.

Saban explained it well yesterday. Alabama was running a lot of RPO stuff. South Carolina consistently had 6+ in the box, so the passing game was open. It’s not that they planned to run a lot less, it just works out that way.

Also, about 5-10 of the passes every game are virtually running plays since they’re caught so close to LOS. Doesn’t mean they’re easy to do, but Can easily be compared to an old fashioned 28 toss right.

Najee explained that they were a good front 7 team and Bama knew going into the game that running was going to be tough. That is why we featured a lot of stuff to the backs out of the backfield etc. We will face a lot of good D's going forward and our O game plan will probably be similiar

We are doing of great job of running what they give. I don’t care how we have success on O as long as it works.

I would say no. All things considered, throwing the football should define our offense all year. Next year the answer is likely a big yes.

Precisely. Alabama has a generational QB running the show. Not to mention a bunch of insanely talented receivers making incredible plays. How many teams on the schedule now will be able to stop it or slow it down ? LSU and Auburn look legit as always. Not sure about Texas A&M but yesterday's game was a nice preview for that trip.

Offense was great! They took what the defense gave them. Tua is learning and Sark called a great game. no complaints here.

In fact, I think the Dallas Cowboys offense (under the new OC) and our offense look very similar.

Great comment, also like Pat's we used Rb dumpoffs and screens as a supplement to the run game.

When you think about 34 and 8 skill set last year maybe we should have been dumping in the flats to our backs..Now how much was Tua not checking down or it being called is debatable..Also the wr going around in the flats combined with inside slot crossing is well make those inside blitz pay..

We honestly didn’t even try much. When we did run I felt we were actually pretty effective. A few solid inside runs that we weren’t getting before
