Was anyone else aware of Metchie being hurt most of the year?

It explains why he maybe didn't have the greatest stats in the 2nd half of the year. But he was still very, very good. Another warrior on the team. What a group of guys

No, and I'll be the first to admit I was dogging his performance a bit last night.

Props to him and all those guys who stuck it out to be a big part of this.

Absolutely love that all of the returning receivers had to play huge snaps in increased roles last night. #3 made a massive play when Ohio State had momentum

He made 2 or 3 ridiculously contested slant catches last night that were on td drives

We had lot of players battling injuries this year and most of us didn't notice it...

Really interesting story about his background, from Taiwan, to Ghana, to Canada, to Maryland.

Notebook: Saban praises 2020 team, WRs for playing through injuries (BOL | segment below)

quote:

METCHIE PLAYED THROUGH INJURY

Waddle battled through an ankle injury. Smith left the game with a dislocated finger. And a day after the contest at Hard Rock Stadium, Saban revealed that a third Alabama receiver has been dealing with an injury over the last few months. John Metchie apparently played with an injured ankle for half of the season and didn’t practice leading up to the championship game.

That didn’t stop him from catching eight passes for 81 yards against Ohio State or coming within 84 yards of a 1,000-yard season while playing in the same offense as the Heisman winner.

“John Metchie played outstanding football for us all year,” Saban said. “He's got a lot of grit and toughness because he's had a bad ankle for about the last half of the season. It was very difficult for him to practice. He actually didn't practice one play for all the practices that we had for this last game other than walk-throughs and doing a little bit of individual, then goes out and plays extremely well in the game.

“He didn't make it through the game, but I think it shows a lot of competitive toughness on his part, a lot of grit, a lot of determination, a lot of mental toughness to be able to go through and do what he did.

“I think all those things are going to serve him well in the future in terms of his continued growth as a player and his production and performance I think will sort of verify that next year because the guy is a very talented guy, he's a hard worker and it's important to him.” ...

No but I did notice there was a point earlier this year where he all of a sudden just started dropping balls a lot.

I don’t recall a bunch of drops but it’s like he just wasn’t coming open or making as many plays as earlier.

I think we had injuries to all four of our top WRs by the second half of the NC.

It's been a bunch compared to what we are used to.
