I just finished up watching the Coaches' Broadcast.

Tua has a lot to work on when it comes to his post-snap reads, but that can be done over the Spring and Summer. He needs to live in the film room and pick every person he cans brain.

The talent is there. The moxie is there. His ceiling is damn near infinite, but he's not as impressive on the third watch as he was on the first. Once the emotion died and the analytical came in, you can see he's got a lot of work ahead of him.

But he's got three more years to do it.

Kid's something special.

He does, but like you said he can correct it. That may be a reason for Jalen to stay put, to push him. Show him that you have to work, make him want to get better, reach his true potential. Alot of his misreads are due to not having the real game experience

I totally agree. I watched the coaches' broadcast today and I thought the same thing. And, I also thought Da'ron Payne is going to be very hard to replace. What's the word on Phidarian Mathis?

He had some freshman mistakes, but I’d love to hear how he had a lot of room to improve. Dude was carving them up. AND Ridley and Judy both almost caught other TDs that Tua placed beautifully. Had some great runs too. Was better than anyone could have expected. And will only get better.

Man, it’s gonna be fun when we eventually start criticizing Tua

Yeah. And he biggest mistake was apparently the perfect fifty yard rocket that brought us #17.

That wasn't a mistake in any of the coaches' eyes. Now the throw to Jeudy in triple coverage when you had a back wide open in the flat for a first down was a mistake in their eyes. Also, he continued to throw into the rotation rather than away from it.

Basically, he made the game harder for himself than it had to be.

No big deal, all those things can be corrected.

Pretty much first thing he'll go over is learn not to pass it when all your WRs have their backs to you blocking down field.

Placement on a lot of the throws, like the crossing route to Foster, the post route to Ruggs (could have been a TD if he didn't have to slide to catch it), and the pass to Jeudy near the sideline. In terms of downfield passes, I think his last pass was the only one someone caught in stride (2 of the deep balls could have been caught with amazing diving catches). He can't attempt that pass into triple coverage in the endzone. There were a few plays where he should have just thrown the ball away instead of taking a sack or throwing to a WR that was blocking instead of running a route.

Funny thing is if you watch the Hurt performance in 1st half and Tua... Receivers did not give Jalen best efforts in 1st half.. lot of poor scheme... they set Jalen up to fail...

That was a play call signal misread by Tua. It was a running play. Tua thought a pass play was called. The worse mistake was his bad decision that followed. He should've tucked it and run or thrown it away. Experience gained, lesson learned.

Tua made some mistakes. But so did Jalen.

What Tua did coming into that situation, starting the 2nd half, down by 2 TDs against a great team, with no momentum, as a true freshman backup QB, in a National Championship game, overcoming mistakes with clutch plays, igniting and leading his team to a comback overtime win was totally friggin' amazing.

Funny how people can acknowledge that tua is talented and still constructively criticize him, yet u get an arsehole or two that degrade and laugh at jalen after everything he's done for this team. Shows the difference in those who appreciate both young men from the ones who will anoint a guy the greatest Bama QB after one game

So #TeamMacJones?

Yeah, he has things to improve on, but given the situation he was thrust into, he played way beyond what anyone could expect. Without him, we aren’t national champions. He will get better, especially as he gets more comfortable. The experience he now has is a great foundation to build on and become even better.

I realize that. Freshman mistake (as to be expected). However, you can't look at either of those 3 WRs at the time he threw the ball and think there was a greater than 15% chance of a completion. Even if he had the correct play, he has to look at that and see that his only 2 options were to throw it away or run.

That mistake could have put the game out of reach if it wasn't for that fluky play a few seconds later.

I don't think anyone feels Tua didn't step up and deliver or play very well and he clearly brought us back from defeat. Just giving some analysis of his play now that we have seen him in real action.

He certaibly has places to improve, as a freshman it would be strange if he didn't, but no doubt he will and next season it will be exciting to see what he does with control of the offense and a full offseason getting the primary reps under his belt.

That's how I watched it during the game. Definitely helped me watch the game as objectively as possible. Just wasn't much emotion in that broadcast.
