I never understood why he gave the gift on the first place...not an alum.
UF's law school is already the Levin College of Law.

quote:Don't punish Daddy. He was a good guy and an Alabama alum. He really loved the school. Junior is a Florida grad and somewhat of an arrogant prick. I suspect that he's been following daddy's request, and not all that happily. Hell, I also suspect that if Fred Levin didn't own the name of Florida's law school, Junior would have gone in that direction.
Not only should they strip his name from the Law School, they should also remove his dad's name from the business school. The only way to silence these types is to punch back twice as hard.
PS- Knowing Fred, I'll bet Junior could buy the naming rights from him for the "correct change"!

Colleagues,
As you undoubtedly know, Hugh Culverhouse has been in the news a great deal over the past couple of days, and you may be wondering if or how this touches on the business college.
Next week the UA System Board of Trustees will consider whether to return a donation made to our School of Law by Hugh Culverhouse, Jr.
This ongoing dispute does not involve the Culverhouse College of Business, which is named after the donor's father, the late Hugh F. Culverhouse, Sr., a UA alumnus who received a bachelor's degree in 1941 and a law degree in 1947. The naming of the College of Business occurred in 1998.
Kay
That's from the Dean of the business school this morning.

Yep - got that too. Damn right. Jr can kick rocks for dragging his dad's name through the mud.

UA System Statement reads as follows:
quote:
As part of an ongoing dispute, last week High Culverhouse, Jr. asked for the return of $10 million, repeating numerous demands about the operations of the University of Alabama School of Law.
Consequently, yesterday Chancellor Finis St. John recommended to the Board of Trustees that it return all of Mr. Culverhouse's $21.5 million donation to the Law School, which will be acted on at the Board's meeting next week.
None of the issues between the Law School and Mr. Culverhouse had anything to do with the passage of legislation in which the University had no role.
Donors may not dictate University administration.

That is a perfectly worded statement. Without emotion, states facts, hammer down concluding sentence.
Well fvckin done.
Well fvckin done.

Culverhouse looks like a bigger fool since he drug that abortion shite into this. He should have just taken his money back and shut up or said that he didn't agree with how the University was going to use the donation.

It's not like Alabama is the only state that wants to clamp down.....They have effectively banned it in Mizzou and its now extremely limited in Ohio, two traditionally blue states. Quite a few other states are coming in pretty close to Alabama's position so Alabama is hardly unique here.
It's a lame arse excuse and he is a tool for calling for a boycott on the school and state. I'm glad they returned his money.

Don't got into big feuds with big donors save that for the little ones.
Take the money, spend it and then tell him to take a hike if you can't stand him/ her.
It's his daddy's money anyway and he was an alum. So we do have some dibs on that.

It's called integrity. The University of Alabama can't be bought.

Does anyone think it's weird that the undergraduate and graduate business schools have different names (Culverhouse/Manderson)? I don't know of another school that does this

I know that your post was partially in jest, but there is so much wrong with this sentence.

Anyone else get the email from Dr. Bell today about the decision to return the donation?

Yes. Assuming all alums got it

I assumed as much. But hadn’t seen any dialogue in this thread since the national media started picking up the story today.

Is there any proof this guy was micromanaging and trying to dictate to the administration? Seems like they would have cut bait before his comments if that was going on.

My impression was they were going to cut ties with him, and that's what led to his comments. He was trying to drum up sympathy.
