Hugh Culverhouse, Jr., the University of Alabama’s largest donor, has called for a boycott of Alabama -- school and state -- over the state’s latest near-total abortion ban law.

But the UA System and Culverhouse have been in an ongoing dispute over the millions he has donated to the law school unrelated to the abortion legislation

University of Alabama System Chancellor Finis St. John recommended the Board of Trustees return the $21.5 million in donations the law school it has actually received, and restore the name to “The University of Alabama School of Law”

“Sweet home Alabama? There ain’t nothing god-damn sweet about it,” Culverhouse said.

LOL - Oh He Real Mad

While I'm not naive enough to think his comments had nothing to do with it, it does sound like the bigger issue was that he felt he had carte blanche authority to give opinions/demands on day to day and structural operations at the Law School due to his gift.

That ain't how endowments/naming gifts work.

I believe he is using the abortion ban as an out. He was wanting to control things. He didn't think the University would tell him to suck it.

What it seems like to me. The University has plenty of heavy hitters. 21 million or whatever really isn't that much in the grand scheme.

Not only should they strip his name from the Law School, they should also remove his dad's name from the business school. The only way to silence these types is to punch back twice as hard.

Aside from and disregarding the possibility that he may be using this issue to forego donations to UA, why is he basically blaming The University for this legislation? Legislation which, I am pretty sure, will face court challenges, and may not stand.

I can only assume he includes The University of Alabama because it is a public institution in part funded by the state of Alabama.

Finis big dicked this Florida clown.

He has been attempting to micromanage the law school since the ink dried on the check.

Because he was born into the .1% and feels he’s entitled to run everything

Junior ain't near the Alabama supporter that his daddy was. Guy's actually a Florida grad. I applaud the BoT for their position on the matter.

That idiot made that donation as a way of sticking it to his already deceased father. Boy, he really showed him!! Other than the donation, he has nothing to do with UA. If the school doesn’t need the money, I’m with Finis. Culverhouse is an embarrassment.
