I think those were two different ones - triple Coverage was the deep ball that was almost picked in the end zone. The 4th down was the Ridley TD pas which wasn't intended for Ridley I think.

Ah I had not seen that angle. Yeah that's bad positioning. He's cheating over to what he thinks is the play side before the snap. Didn't this guy start like 60 games? Plus devonta just speeds past the corner inside, then breaks outside and is gone. Corner didn't expect Smith to be that fast and the safety didn't expect tua to be able to throw it 48 yards on a rope. Good on tua for reading it
Actually in that frame he is trying to give a Cover 1 look, so nothing super wrong yet.
Here is the next frame as he starts the rotation.
The problem is he drops to just out side the hash here, if you look later in the play and the super big problem is he actually drifts back to the right (!!!) instead of further back and left. He is clearly keyed on the TE running the slant with Tua looking at him, which is a mistake. Smith is coming straight at his assignment full speed and the corner is playing trail trying to undercut the 15 yard out they expect.

Tua played the game like his pants were on fire, since the entire team was drowning. Of course he's going to make some bad decisions. However if he starts the game we're likely either tied or up at the half, and he could have been a bit more relaxed and not taking huge sacks and throwing bad picks.

Yeah, I responded to those two plays separately.

I jsut hope Saban lets Tua be Tua and doesn't try to change him into a game manager. He's a game changer, not manager.
He'll throw interceptions. Get used to it.
A playmaker that makes plays and a few mistakes is better than a game manager that makes no mistakes 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

Bigtime.
I still think Saban is gonna spank his arse on national TV at some point tho.

I don't want him to turn into GMAC or anything - who sometimes seemed scared to throw it up to Julio in single coverage - but definitely want him to pick his spots and be smart with the football and make good decisions in terms of attacking double coverage, going underneath vs. over the top, etc.
All that will come with time i'm sure, very excited to see what he looks like after getting a lot of the first time reps this coming off-season.

Tua will just put his arm around CNS like he did when he threw the INT Monday night. He looked like he was just trying to calm the coach down, like its ok coach, we got this. And to the other poster, they didn't do anything to hold Tua back this year when he came into the games. He was throwing on first down and second down right off the bat. Probably the only conflict will be Saban telling Dabol to run the ball some.

I see it as more of an AJ McCarron type situation.

I was thinking about that this morning. Nick needs to rely on Mrs Terry or someone, because laying into this kid isn't going to work. So I hope he doesn't have a tantrum when a mistake happens , and takes his advise about moving on to the next play.
Nick has learned to know which kids need what, but he still let's his emotions get the best of him.

If you look, even if tua doesn't hit Smith (I'm glad he does) 2 guys (3 if you count the safety cheating) are keying on the tight end running the crossing route. Look at the rb check down and all the room in front of him and every defender running the other way and 2 wrs to block down field. That's at least a first down with yards after the catch

AJ was great in that regard if memory serves, smart with the football and it didn't seem to limit his production. We had a dominant oline / running game so that certainly helped a lot.

The crazy thing is Sanders, the safety, barely moved back to the right. I mean it was like 1.5-2 short steps and Tua rifled that fricking ball. Poor kid had no chance after that misstep.

It would have been a good run for sure, if he gets the under zone guy to miss then probably a first down.
If the safety actually played his assignment, the deep post would have been wide open, which is what Kiffin was talking about I believe.

That's just it. Any momentum back the wrong way and you are fricked.
Kiffin was a master of getting wide open receivers with route design and teaching the receivers body lean. They ended up playing safeties waaaaayyy over the top to guard Ridley last year and the year before.

How about throw it to a WR that wasn't triple covered?
You really shouldn’t talk football. It’s just not your thing buddy.

Pvilles hate for the kid is obvious with all of his posts just in this thread alone.

Why would I hate him? I'm just not immediately predicting a three-peat and 2 heismans. He still has a lot to work on and I can understand why the coaches didn't make him the starter in week 8.
