Man I am still giddy over Monday night. They never get old and that one was especially sweet when everyone had stuck a fork in us.

But going forward, I caution us all to be realistic about Tua. The kid did unbelievable things in his first half of meaningful football. But he also made some freshman mistakes. And not just on the INT early on. Tua is now a true sophomore but he’s still got a lot of learning about what he can and can’t do at this level.

The First Team (Taylor Zarzour and G Mac) had Lane Kiffin on this morning talking about the game and he made a very eye opening comment. Kiffin said of the game winning play, the ball is supposed to be thrown to the single WR on the right because they are in cover 2 on the left and nobody over there should be open. Did Tua make a great next level play by looking off the safety to get Devontae open or did he get lucky or a little of both? There’s no doubt the safety for Georgia blew his assignment but was it fortune or was it Tua?

All’s I’m saying is, we got what most of us wanted and the kid did an incredible job. But he’s not perfect so don’t expect him to be. Don’t erect the statue and anoint him the next Tom Brady just yet. Savor this one, enjoy the thought of how bright the future is, but cut the kids some slack. We played a lot of young’uns Monday which is a good thing but they will have growing pains. So let’s let them and enjoy the ride. Roll Tide!

Yeah. He has a bright future, but he made some big mistakes and got extremely lucky a few times.

But it may be too soon for some people to objectively look at his performance.

Tell Kiffin he threw it to the open receiver. Kiffin said the night of the game that it was the wrong call. He sure is obsessed with Alabama football.

The kid can actually throw the ball 15+ yards down the field accurately enough to hit our receivers sometimes.... I'll take that all day and they can work on the rest of his game.

I think the final play was a great throw and he had it - hard to say if he would have thrown it or not if the safety had been in the correct position but in this case, it was simply an incredible throw with perfect placement.

But the int., throw into triple coverage which was almost picked in the end zone, sack in OT are examples of where he needs to improve and I am sure he will.

Tua has unreal arm talent, once he limits those mistakes (thus keeping the ball in his hands) he will be scary. I fully hope and expect to see him continue to improve in that regard this spring as he gets more of the first team reps.

at Lane Kiffin's

Tua looked that safety off his target like a pro. Kiffin is such a foolish tool.

National championship TD was Tua's favorite play!
quote:

His HS coach said THAT play was Tua's favorite. One he practiced thousands of times and could have completed blindfolded!

“Alabama calls that ‘Seattle.’ Coach Ron calls it ‘Divide.’ It’s the same play. That’s Tua’s favorite play. For the three years we had him at Saint Louis, we must’ve repped it 20 times a day, five days a week. That’s 100 times a week for months,” Passas said.

“He could’ve thrown it blindfolded.”

Now you know the rest of the Story.

Honestly, there is the problem with Kiffin's coaching right there. Kiffin expects the QB to be a vessel for him and do the call as he wants it. Daboll and really the NFL approach is to set the play and let the player work the play how he sees fit due to how the defense responds to the offensive alignment.

Kiffin would have the QB force the call that he made, effectively taking the QB out of the decision making process. Maybe thats good for Jalen or a QB like Blake Sims. But with a QB like Tua, give him the whole field and let him work to the area where the defense is vulnerable. Let him manipulate the spot he wants (exactly like he did) and get to the right spot on recognition post snap; rather than going to a predetermined player as read by Kiffen pre-snap.

Optimistic caution is definitely warranted, however he is also going to continue improving, which is exciting to think about.

Will he make mistakes? Yes, like every QB to play. Does the upside of what he brings to the game outweigh those mistakes? Time will tell, but our first glimpse was promising.

I certainly don't expect any flawless games from Tua. But, he's going to be a very good QB.

And Tua not only knew it was cover 2, and that the safety was supposed to come over, but he also knew how to manipulate him and beat him anyway.

Also, frick Kiffin. He's a giant child and I hated his pussy offense.

Yeah. I saw him make a lot of the same types of slightly inaccurate throws that people dogged Jalen for, but the differences were that the WRs caught them and Tua was less hesitant to make the throw.

1, the play was open
2. So Tua threw it.
3. The near INT in end one hit the reciever in the hands.
4. The play to Ridly was dead on target to either Ridley or Harris behind him.
It was where the ball needed to go.
5. The INT was a stupid play. We maybe lost 30 yards filed position because of it. I’ll trade 26 points and a national championship for 30 yards.

We came one second away from having two different true freshmen QBs make game winning touchdowns in the NC game two years in a row. Just thought about that. That's kind of nuts.

Which is why we stuck with Jalen all year. He did an outstanding job at protecting the football. The near pick was scary and the big sacks Tua took probably wouldn't happen with Jalen.....but Jalen can't make the throws Tua can.

Still not a smart throw. Extremely small chance of a completion.

If Ridley wasn't there, the pass was most likely going to be incomplete (PI is another discussion). I don't see any way Harris catches that pass even if the DB doesn't wrap him up.

He wasn't dead accurate with several throws, but his timing and release were miles ahead of where Jalen is as a QB. It's okay to not be 100% accurate as long as you're throwing a ball that the receiver can work with.

Perfect example, look at the TD he threw to Ruggs. Ruggs wan't open when Tua threw it. He knew the timing of the route and then threw Ruggs open to a clear spot in the coverage. Jalen has not made that throw in two years as a starter.

Look, Tua is going to make some mistakes, some big mistakes that will hurt us, maybe even lose us a game or two. On the other hand, he will be the most complete QB we've had under Saban and a true dual-threat. It flat out exciting where this offense can go.

Man I've supported Jalen all year but most of his misses weren't that close and receivers aren't dropping balls for Jalen on purpose. Tua is clearly the better QB and it's not really that close.

My favorite part of Tua’s game and one that I hope to God they don’t try to coach out of him: even on the mistakes, the INT, the sack Tua is trying to make a play. He’s not throwing it away every time, he’s putting the ball in play and letting his teammates try and make a play. Will that lead to mistakes? Most definitely. But it also allows our 5 star roster to make plays, big plays that can change a game. A little bit of a gunslinger in your QB is a good thing.

Tua will win the Heisman, twice, win three nattys in row and be the first pick in the draft. Get out of here with that other silly stuff.
