Is Cincinnati the worst playoff opponent that a Bama team has matched up with since its inception?

Hard to say. They are down there with Mich State, Washington, and Notre Dame I guess.

Also true or false:

Is 2021 Bama the worst Bama team to make a playoff?

I'd take this team over 2014, but that's about it.

This is the problem. Yes Cincy may be one of the worst; however, the second quote is partly true too. If 2020 Bama was playing this Cincy team I'd think that the game would be over by halftime. The 2021 Bama team makes me think it will be close until the end.

I’ll go true. I don’t fully remember their seasons, but I doubt that those MSU, Washington, or Notre Dame teams have close games against 2-10 Tulane, 2-10 Indiana, 4-8 Navy, and 6-6 Tulsa

I'll go with Notre Dame, I've never seen Saban shut us down so early in a big game. He knew Notre Dame didn't have any answers and took our foot off the gas really early.

This team has a much higher ceiling than the 2014 team. Whether they choose to get to their potential is a crap shoot from week to week.

I think the 2015 Michigan State team is the worst playoff team ever. I still have no clue how they won that game in Columbus.

Exactly. Feeding them the good rat poison. And that is why it will be a tough game. They will be highly motivated.

UW had Vita Vea, Budda Baker, Kevin King, Sidney Jones, John Ross, Dante Pettis, Myles Gaskin, and Will Dissly.

They are all NFL players (or were)

Cincy has Ridder, Juice Gardner, Pierce, and Ford who could all be drafted at some point.

Michigan St had Jack Conklin on the OL. I don't think Montez Sweat played and the other two NFLers were Calhoun and McDowell.

Wow.

Washington had a very talented defense. Greg Gaines and Vita Vea were, and still are, stalwarts in the middle. Gaines plays for the Rams now. If Cincinnati is anything resembling that group then we're in trouble.

Washington's secondary was as good and complete as any we've ever played against.

Sweat played at Miss. St.

Yes. And while I want to respect Cincinnati, I'm not sure if I can compare their talent to what Washington had that year. Plus, I believe that Chris Petersen is a better coach than Luke Fickell.

2015 Washington Defense
- Budda Baker (S) (2nd round pick, 2016 Consensus AA, 2x All Pro, 3x Pro Bowler)
- Taylor Rapp (S) (2nd round pick, 2016 Freshman AA, NFL starter)
- Sidney Jones (CB) (2nd round pick)
- Kevin King (CB) (2nd round pick, NFL starter)
- Ben Burr-Kirven (LB) (5th round pick, 2018 1st team AA)
- Keishawn Bierria (LB) (6th round pick)
- Azeem Victor (LB) (6th round pick)
- Greg Gaines (DT) (4th round pick, rotational player Rams)
- Vita Vea (DT) (1st round pick, P12 Defensive POY 2017, NFL starter)
- Elijah Qualls (DT) (6th round pick)

That was a damn good defense. 10 of their 13-14 main contributors were drafted and 5 of them in the first 2 rounds.

Cincy has two All-American CB's starting for them this year. Sauce Gardener is a 1st team and Coby Bryant is a 2nd team.

I have no idea what the quality of their safeties is like.

That was the biggest difference in what Washington had - it wasn't just 1 or 2 guys or even a position. They had NFL starters at all 4 (5 in nickel) DB spots.

Baker, Rapp, Jones and King. I remember reading/hearing about how good they were and doing the smug Alabama thing "yea we will see" before the game. I remember leaving the game thinking those dudes were absolutely legit.

For sure; it wasn't an accident that they ended up in the playoffs. That defense was stacked with talent.

UGA also had the best defense ever. In not going to knock Cincinnati's CBs, but I am going to reserve judgements until I see them against some elite WRs.

The crazy thing about the 2014 team is they could have and probably should have beaten Ohio State. They had a 21-6 lead but Kiffin insisted for some reason to keep throwing the ball instead of feeding Derrick Henry who was gashing the OSU defense. OSU got momentum and ended up taking the lead.
Blake Sims had an awful game with a couple of costly ints.
