Battle returning is HUGE, if Hellams returns then this has the chance to be the best secondary we’ve had.

While the most likely outcome is he will leave it was pointed out that Allen signing with an agency is not a guarantee that he will declare due to NLI. Forgive me if it was confirmed and I missed it.

The NCAA Football Oversight Committee has recommended that the annual 25-person signing limit immediately expand as a way for coaches to replace players they’ve lost to the burgeoning transfer portal. The recommendation is expected to be debated and potentially approved at the next Division I Council meeting on Oct. 5. The policy will take effect in the current 2022 recruiting cycle and is seen as a one-year waiver before a more permanent rule is created.

Under the recommendation, schools can sign 25 new players while gaining additional signee spots for each player who transfers out of their program—up to a limit of seven, sources tell Sports Illustrated. The transferring player must have left academically eligible. For instance, a school that loses five players to the portal can sign 30 new players. A school that loses 10 players to the portal can sign 32 new signees.

Schools can only replace those who enter the transfer portal.

So, how does that work with the roster crunch?

Oh My Lord. If Golding continues to improve we may have a 2016 situation on our hands.

Still have to be at 85 or less. That's what is so asinine. The NCAA gave 5 classes of players a bonus year, but only changed the 85-limit for a single year. So now you have 130 FBS teams trying to fit 6 recruiting classes into 85 scholarships.

We have 87 scholarship players this year and only had 2 exhaust their eligibility. With 25 new signees, that means we have to ditch 25 scholarship players who still have remaining eligibility.

In the SEC alone, there were only 94 players who exhausted their collegiate eligibility this season versus 284 new signees. That leaves 190 guys on scholarship with eligibility remaining that are going to have to go somewhere else.

Rinse and repeat across the board for all of FBS, and the net result is going to be tons of D1 level players in the transfer portal that won't be able to sign anywhere because there is no room.

Slade always kind of reminded me of Julien Edelman

He’s going to have to work his arse off like Edelman but I agree. Edelman worked on his footwork and rented a house next to Tom Brady every offseason when he was just returning punts for the pats so that he could build chemistry with Tom.

Hellams another guy id like to see a young guy playing in front of. For him to be a guy whose biggest asset is hitting he misses a lot of tackles.

Neither of our returning safety's are elite at this point. but hopefully they can both get better this season. Neither have the ball skills as Eddie or Minkah.

Jordan Battle isn't quite Eddie Jackson but he was as really, really good last year. Getting him back is massive.

Hellams missed 3 tackles the last 9 games of the year. 1 vs LSU, 1 vs Arkansas, 1 vs Georgia in Indy. Once he got healthy the 2nd half he played the best football of his career.
