Got a letter today telling me I have to now pay to stay on the waiting list every year. WTF is this shite?? I have been patiently waiting for over 10 years now to get season tickets and they do this. Anyone know that this was coming down the pipe?? To say I’m a little miffed is an understatement. I have been a regular attendee of games for the last 12-13 years but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Damn man......that is pretty shitty......did they tell you when you can expect to get tickets if you have to pay to be on the list?

Tide Pride gonna Tide Pride.
Best to just avoid TP altogether and get tickets on the secondary market. Been doing if for years and have only had trouble finding a reasonably priced ticket once.

When is enough money enough?

That's an easy decision to make. Ironic that it is sent to you at the same time one of the most famous waiting lists' events, The Masters, is taking place this week.
The Masters has people on waiting lists for generations, yet charge nothing.

Been doing this for nearly 10 years now and it's the only way to go

So they want to pare down a decade long waiting list to the people most likely to be long term? I don't see the problem with this.

So, what, exactly, is your problem?

I think it's like $20 a year isn't it? And it's applied to your Tide Pride point total.
I mean look, I don't disagree that the University is money hungry, but I don't think this is THAT big a deal. I think it's odd timing given everything going on with attendance across America, but it's not some travesty. If you truly want season tickets this will 100% help you move up faster.
They also are going to have a defined list that can be checked wherever whenever. That solves a huge problem (at least it was 7 years ago when I was on the wait list).

Just a hint, drop tide pride. Buy season tickets (not individual games) on stubhub before the season starts. The prices are very comparable after donations and price of tickets for tide pride and you are in the lower bowl on the 30-40 yard line. With tide pride you have to wait 5 plus years and then when you get them you are sitting in the upper deck for several years. If you don’t believe me, check stub hub around the second week of August. I was on the tide pride waiting list for several years and after finding this out, I’ll do it this way every year from now on.
Edit: after reading the thread completely through I can now see someone already suggested this exact thing

I waited for a about 8 years to get them. Had to get upper deck. Couldn’t even give them away.
Heard horror stories about people that have had them for decades and now the university is making them do this, that, and the other to keep their seats. I didn’t renew mine last year.
You can find people on Facebook selling their season tickets for face value (plus their donation) pretty easily.

My Dad has been on the waiting list since 2007. Last year, he finally got the call that we had tickets. Sadly, we had to turn them down because I am in law school and can't go most weekends. We got put back on the waitlist, but not all the way at the bottom.

with the charitable donation deductability gone, the money coming into the university will decline moving forward. They know this.

Funny you should mention that I have been entering the lottery for tickets to that for over 10 years as well and never selected.

I think multiple things play into this. Of course, Money is always the root, but I do think it will eliminate a ton of folks by putting a tiny bit of money where their mouth is.
I find it odd, that I signed both my son and daughter up several years ago on the waiting list. My daughter is the only one that received an offer to pay the $25 annual wait fee. I have had tix for about 20 years, but have been waiting for 2 extra for about 10 years. No luck.

Yea I imagine the ticket office is sick of having to go through thousands of people on the waiting list to get to the people that are actually serious about it/can afford them.
No telling how many folks have no clue about the donation requirements and think they can just waltz in and get lower level 50 yard line seats for pennies and turn around and sell the conference/post season games for 500% profit.
You probably won’t even get post season game offers for another ten years unless you want to fork over another $10k or so.

After initially having a WTF moment I kind of understand now what they are doing. There are 30K on the waiting list. I would imagine 50% or more are either dead/moved/not interested anymore. It will probably facilitate getting tickets quicker because it will be published now where you are on the list.
I paid my $25 or myself and my wife so I get get a concrete answer of where I stand. I know people that have been on the list since 2007 were offered tickets last year so I'm sure I am pretty close. You can also get 3 points/$100 donated which is equal to a year on the wait list since they are giving 3 points for each year you have been on it. I feel like most people could throw a few hundred towards a donation and would make the cut.

I put my name on the list the day after Saban was hired and got tickets 3 years ago.
Probably shouldn’t have given mine back but I just don’t see a point in my life where it’s going to be worth it to me to pay 10 figures per year for seats worth a damn. You just come out a ton better by purchasing them through various ticket sites every year.

I got on the list in 2010 and have not gotten tickets yet. I don't want to buy season tickets anymore, so I'm just assuming this will roll me off the list, which I'm ok with.
