I want to preface this with the fact that I do believe Greg Byrne is a good AD that could potentially be here a long time, giving us great stability.

With that said, we’re about to find out what kind of AD we have. He’s about to be faced with some tough decisions on when to fire Avery and who to hire. He has the money available. Let’s see what kind of hire he makes. I hope the decision is made to fire Avery sooner(as in after this season) rather than later. Our team is not going to perform to the standards we are capable of with Avery at the helm. This program can make a homerun hire and it’s on Byrne’s shoulder to do so. He will be in charge of replacing Saban once he retires, so let’s hope he gets this right. It’s your move Byrne.

I agree with everything you said. However...it's not solely Byrne's decision to make because we are talking a serious buyout costing a lot of cash. Can we afford it? Sure, we can, no sweat! Will they spend that kind of money on shooty hoops? Now there's the tough question. The good ole boys in charge will spend the last dime to their name if it's for football but basketball is a different story. They hemmed and hawed about firing Grant and may do so again. But it's clear it needs to be done. We are regressing and it's time to get this program back to the level it enjoyed first under CM Newton then under Wimp Sanderson. Go find us a basketball coach we can support; one that will restore this program to one that can compete with anyone in the SEC, including Big Blue!

What is his buyout and are there any offsets?

If Bama wants to go scorched Earth, they can just report violations and fire for cause

FTFY.

That's what we pay Saban every year. We can afford to fire Grant.

That's the question.

Hiring the right person is all about timing. Hiring a proven winner, would cost a lot of money, is UA willing to fork it over for basketball?

Hiring a young up and comer, would he use Bama as a stepping stone to a more blue-blood basketball program?

Like it or not we are sort of damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Jay Wright isn't leaving Villanova unless it is for a blue blood

That's like when stupid Aubies want to for Gus for Dabo.

Byrne did a damn fine job with Bohannon and the baseball hire. Let him do his job, he will find a coach we can all be excited about.

He also fired Mike Stoops and hired Rich Rod at AZ.
None of these guys are perfect.

but mike stoops was an aneursym waiting to happen. rich rod, well, ok i'll give that one.

so why is it so hard for bama to get a decent hc for b'ball? is it money? is it ego, no one wants to be second fiddle to bama football? or what?

The almighty powerful dollar can persuade all. Jay Wright is making 2.5mill a yr. 3.5 or 4mill would peek his interest

We have all the money in the world.

I'll believe they actually treat basketball in an uber competitive way when I see it. The fact that were doing the stupid BDS renovation before Coleman was a pretty big confirmation of my thoughts that the money people truly dont give 2 fvcks about basketball.

FIFY

He's at the top of the mountain. He's not going to give that up for a complete rebuilding project.

Your post is dumb.

No, it wouldn't

First, Nova would match that

Second, if Wright is looking for a pay day a blue blood would pay much more than Bama for him

There is no way UCLA and IU hire Alford/Miller at ~$3mil if they thought Jay Wright would come for $3-4mul

Yep. BDS is one of the nicer facilities, but since they see Aggy and the corndogs getting shiny new upgrades to their shitheap stadiums they just have to do something to BDS. It's totally unnecessary and the fact that it's taking precedence over the upgrades to Coleman, which is arguably the worst facility in the conference now that the Sad Pad is no more, just goes to show you that everything we do with basketball will always be second rate. Literally all we do is overpay coaches and then cut corners everywhere else. It's awful.
