The running game worries me

Which of these was the biggest issue?
OL not making holes or getting push
Sark not great at scheming the run
Bama is pretty average at RB

It's really difficult for a RB to get to the second level if the offensive line isn't creating holes for them to run through. I don't know if you noticed, but on running plays, our OL got pushed back into the backfield on just about every play that got shutdown. On the plays where the RBs had space, they gained 5-7 yards a pop.

I hope we can correct that. Brown should help. Is Ekiyor ok?

I think it’ll get better. We have three new interior linemen and a tackle who played a different position last year (Leatherwood played right guard). Even if they supposedly had a great camp, they still have to gel in game and get adjusted to the actual game setting.

Couple of times we could have had a 4 or 5 yd gain, but the RB tried to cut too many times and turn it into a long gain.
Like to see us not go on the first clap every time either.

I saw the replay of Taulia and Fords TD. The OL opened alot of room on that play. Ford had big holes all over to run through. Maybe that was one play as I missed a few minutes of the game.

It will be fine. I think we will be able to run in the red zone this year but we are gonna be a pass first team for the most part and for good reason. Najee is gonna make a believer out of his doubters.

I’m not worried about it at all. I thought Najee looked great, and Brian Robinson is a punisher. O-Line is a work in progress at this point as it literally always is. We were moving and swapping linemen in and out all game. Our best lineup seemed to be Leatherwood, Neal, Owens, Dickerson, and Wills, although Deonte Brown might take a spot back after his suspension.

I’d like to see where we are a month from now. We’ve got a lot of new guys out there and they need to gel. I will say schematically I saw a couple of things that bothered me.

Damn, it would appear most of you are judging results and guessing what happened.
The O-Line had the same issue we often have against well coached small/quick defensive fronts. Duke was slanting with quick DL and counter-filling with second level and twists. The guys who kept getting in the backfield were usually the twist or counter fill guy.
Our line ran a good bit of zone blocking. The quick slant and counter-fill is difficult to pick-up when big bodies get moving one direction under power and a quick little shite crosses his face to split the gap off his hip.

Doubt Neal has played guard ever before this game.

Our OL is physically built for a pro style, run first offense. More size and strength than quickness and agility.

The transfer, Dickerson has arms bigger than my legs. Dude is a mountain.

We miss Deonte Brown.

It will be better once Cornbread gets back. He was easily our best run blocking lineman last year.
Dickerson didn’t really impress me, I would look at giving Womack a shot at RG. I think Neal will end up being really good after a few games

It will be important to have Brown back in the lineup by the Texas A&M game. He was a major difference maker last year when he was in the lineup. Dude was destroying people against Tennessee, LSU and Auburn. When he left the Miss. State game, the drop off was astounding. Hopefully we can get through the South Carolina game and have more cohesion.

This. Boz mentioned there were some communication issues. It’s a new line with new guys. Give it time. Duke did a great job scheming with stunts. Honestly, when we just lined up and ran without pulling, we did a lot better. It’s a work in progress. Plus, Brown was a big piece of the puzzle.

Not sure if Brown will get his starting job back.

Last year, the drop off from Brown to Cotton was stark. Watch how different the unit looked against Miss. State and Georgia when he left the game.
