Finebaum can't even throw a hot take anymore.

I'd like to think that it's because Finebaum is awful.

Because his callers are all staged now?

The callers are mostly boring and many are unable to string together a real thought. Especially boring are the yealots who call in just to scream mindless claptrap for their team. I understand that the show has recently added an early hour to the four hour show... who could watch/listen to this for 4-5 hours? And when has the show dropped any real news lately? But this is just my opinion, I could be mistaken

I used to love watching it, but I probably haven't watched it in about a year. I get tired of the scripted callers and I also get tired of hearing people call in and yell to the top of their lungs about nothing. The show just doesn't interest me anymore

I've never watched it, but if ratings are down the most likely cause is because the SEC as a whole is down. Tennessee, Florida, Arkansas, and to a certain extent LSU, aTm, and Auburn fans are all really dissatisfied with the direction of their programs. Pretty much the last thing they want to do is listen to Bama and Georgia fans proclaiming their greatness and know that they're right.

Making Finebaum the "face" of the SEC Network was a poor choice. He made a living putting Alabama callers against Auburn callers. It was fun radio during your drive home. Now he has to cater to a broader fanbase and the caller schticks just aren't compelling or appealing. Not to mention Finebaum doesn't know anything about the actual sport of football. He's all about the politics of the sport. Even then, he doesn't really bring anything to the table because his takes are nothing more but hedged bets.

Overall, I think the SEC Network is a poor product, but that's a conversation for another thread.

Finebaum has always been terrible. He's nothing but a host with connections to the rumor mills. He knows absolutely nothing about the actual game. His callers have always been moronic plants used to for shock value.

If he just did interviews, he'd be ok. But, pay attention to him next time someone says, "What do you think about yadda yadda's offensive line against X?" He'll avoid answering every time.

I wish we had a better radio show on in the afternoons.

He'll either punt that by saying he'll have a guest touch on that later or he'll pivot to talking about it in a 20,000 foot level. When he makes a prediction, he does it in a way where he can hedge so he can claim victory no matter what the outcome is.

There was a time when his planted callers helped drive the show but now they just anchor it down and take the air out of the show. Too many options out there right now for me to tune in and listen to Jim from Tuscaloosa yell for 10 minutes. During a slow day, Finebaum could fill up an entire show on BS like race or petty Bama vs. Auburn stuff.

If Finebaum were smart, he'd have a call in show every Saturday night after all games are over.

I miss when Finebaum was only a state-wide show about Alabama and Auburn. For me it was much more fun when the two idiots screaming at each other were from Vestavia and Montgomery, not Marcus Spears and some guy from Ohio.

We all love to talk about how the rivalry exists 365 days a year here, and love it or hate it, Paul's show played a big part in that. I have great memories of jumping in my dad's jeep after school right when Machine Head started playing. That show died the day he went national.

This is spot on. The show went national and lost its way. I dont give a shite about national writers or the cheesy feminine segments with Laura Rutlege. It reeks of the NBC Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda. Get the frick outta here with that crap.

Someone else in state needs to step in and fill that void. Cole Cubelic has a good show out of Huntsville on weekday mornings, but it's too self driven and not enough callers.

I don't listen often but the last time I did he let his caller named Tammy get on the line and cry about her custody issues with her grandkids. I don't wanna hear that chit. If that's what the show is about, I'll be fine listening to something off my iphone.

While we’re talking about radio shows, how awful is the OD on WJOX? Can’t believe that show has last over a decade. I guess it’s really hard to screw up that time slot.

The local Tuscaloosa show with Wimp and Barry is pretty good, they give a honest view of the coaching side a lot and have some good guests. They do like to talk a good bit of bball though.

The hosts of that show are true local celebrities. The show is pretty bad, but I know Tony and Jay sell tons of ad space for the station.

Abso-fricking-lutely not. Paul's show did well because of the rivalry, he didn't create those conditions.

Speaking of morning shows, Lane Kiffin just had an awesome interview on GMac's show. Kiffin is a straight shooter. I really enjoyed the segment.

They asked him about Jalen and Tua and Kiff thinks Tua would be the national freshman of the year if he was pretty much anywhere else. He said he feels that Tua is the 2nd best QB in the SEC already... behind Jalen.

I know we have mixed feelings about the dude, but you can tell he has nothing but love for Bama and Saban.

While we're on the subject of bad radio shows, the Thom Abraham show in Huntsville is terrible too. I remember listening to it back in the day, and it was ok. Or, that's how I remember it. I've tried listening to it a few times recently, and it's just people calling in to give their picks to some weekly against the spread contest. Pardon me if I don't want to hear 2 hours of Jim Bob and Chris calling in to give picks. And it's not even presented in the form of a conversation. They just call in and say, "Give me, Georgia, USC, Bama, and I'll go with UCF over USF." Then on to the next caller. Who the hell thinks that makes good radio? Maybe Thom thinks by sprinkling in some hockey talk, it will keep the listeners entertained. But, it's god awful.

I love Kiffin and appreciate everything he did for us...he is a hot mess but a hell of a coach.
