If you've been to 11 World Series and only have 1 title to show for it, your name is either Bobby Cox or Patrick Murphy.

And we've lost the other 10 titles the same fricking way, every time: can't generate enough offense. We don't lose games and titles 10-8, we lose them 2-0 or 3-2. We always ride a stud pitcher till the end, but you've gotta have the bats too.

I love Bobby Cox though.

I’m not saying he’s perfect and can’t tweak things, but to call him a lucky idiot is beyond ridiculous. Never realized the hatred for the guy. Whew.

It's not like everybody else is loading up on a bunch of titles. A lot of teams get there most years and fall short most years.

Since 2007
Oklahoma - 3
Florida - 2
Alabama - 1
FSU - 1
Arizona - 1
Arizona St - 1
Washington - 1
UCLA - 1

He's clearly got some irritating faults, but this team appears to be a tick back up after what was rightly a bit of a disturbing slow down trend the last few years.

Hopefully they keep playing well.

Yea I would love to have hitters like the old days but if you are going to criticize him when things are not up to par , then you have to give him credit when things are rolling. He is responsible for the players we have on the roster plain and simple . Let’s be honest he built Bama softball , not the other way around

I agree. We needed more speed and pitching depth and he's addressed that issue in recruiting this years team.

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m grateful for Murphy’s accomplishments and he did build the program from ground zero to the national power it is. It’s his program.

But hitting has been an issue for multiple seasons now. Quite a few if memory serves me. And he won’t change his approach. He should fire the hitting coach. Except he IS the hitting coach and refuses to hire one. It’s working up to a point but we keep reaching that point of failure and it has probably cost us more than one title. Two thirds of what he is doing has been money but the other third is holding us back. I know we probably can’t be a powerhouse hitting team that is good as our pitching and defense but can’t we do some things differently to get to at least dangerous with the bats?

We didn't start bitching about Murph until we saw how quickly Auburn got good when they hired Clint Myers. Them getting good involved them being better than us, even when we were riding a four year starter in the circle.

In a way the same thing happened with gymnastics but on a much smaller level and scope.

I think that partly it but another big piece was it seemed we got slightly less competitive, on the national stage, each year. Same with gymnastics.

This team has passed the "don't lose any games to lesser competition" phase (something the last few did not do), so that is already a nice trend change. The next step is proving they are good enough to realistically expect them to beat elite teams. And we won't know that until mid April.

Gym was similar. We started posting lower scores and losing to programs we never used to lose to (partly because they were better, partly because we were worse). We would be a top 5-7 tram but wouldn't really actually be a threat to win the national title.
Honestly, gyms slow decline is very similar to Tennessee women's basketball, just about 5 years behind where they are now.

This should be the year where gym misses the Super Six and the powers that be realize the decline is real.

Patty Gasso went 13 years between her first and second WCWS titles and then she won 3 out of 5. That also included a 6 year streak where they did not make the WCWS. Murph has missed the WCWS twice in back to back seasons, 2001 & 2002 and 2017 & 2018. Sure we could run him off, but the administration forced Stallings into retirement early and how did that work out for us?
