Our game plan against Clemson should literally be straight out of the 1980s.

Run powers and sweeps. I don't care if we average 3.4 YPC. Stick with it, understand the big picture and know that the goals are this

- Don't get in 3rd and long
- Don't give Clemson easy field position
- Don't get murdered in TOP

That means there will be drives where we run for 2 then run for 3 then either run for 3 or try and pass and it is incomplete. That's fine. That means we were in 3rd and 5 and Jalen and our offense can functionally operate in 3rd and 5. And guess what, if we don't convert? We have JK Scott punting in a dome.

If we make Clemson drive the field on offense then we will have a shot in the 4th quarter. They are NOT going to beat us consistently on offense if they are starting drives inside their own 30. They just won't.

I'd be completely content to look up at halftime and see something like this

Hurts : 4/7, 57 yards
Harris : 12 carries, 38 yards
Scarbrough : 8 carries, 28 yards
Jacobs : 4 carries, 16 yards
Hurts : 5 carries, 22 yards
Time of Possession : 16 minutes to 14 minutes
Total Plays : 36 to 36

Alabama 10
Clemson 10

Would like to see Najee get more of Bo's first half carries and then Bo to take over mid way through 3rd Q.

Here's what will happen.

Run 14 yards by Harris
Run 8 yards by Harris
Edge screen loss of 3
Run 10 yards by Bo
Run 2 yards by Bo
Off play action Jalen throws it away
Four verticals play Jalen throws it away
Punt

More or less on a loop all game.

Would be a fantastic adjustment. This is the game to use our stable of diverse backs to maximum capacity. We need to see a lot of specific tailored situations and plays for Jacobs/Bo and I want to see the Harris' be the guys otherwise.

Well, that will lose. So hopefully the 30 days gave us enough time to change that.

But even that drive netted 50 yards, meaning JK punted and Clemson starts inside their 20 hopefully.

I have no confidence in this offensive staff atm. Unless we just keep gashing them with the run like we did against awful teams like OM and Vandy, I expect we'll panic and go deep if we have one run that doesn't pick up more than 5 yards.

I really think that's the ballgame right there. Panic, lose. Stick with it, good shot at winning.

It's really pretty simple, and both film and analytical analysis (which we do both of ad nauseum) should pretty easily spell it out. Just comes down to, like you said, not panicking.

Except in reality those runs will be stuffed right at the line. This is the best run defense we've faced

We'll need to be balanced, and keep them guessing. Sorry, but it's not as simple as just RUN THE BALL EVERY PLAY BECAUSE WE HAVE NO QB

They know that, and they have the best defensive front in cfb this year. If Jalen can't beat them with play action passes downfield, we stand no chance

We can't afford 3 and outs in this game, and if you run Harris on 1st and 2nd, we're likely looking at a 3rd down and pass situation, which is where most of our 3 and outs come from

I've got a bad feeling the offense will be more of the same

The only team that has stopped us running the football all season is LSU, and that is because they overloaded the box.

Just because Clemson is a slightly better run defense than Auburn or Florida State does not mean that we will be getting 0 or 1 yards on runs. We clearly can't just run dives over and over, but with our variations of runs and option runs with the QB the offense can very much be a mix of run/QB option run/quick PA to the flats type stuff on early downs that greatly reduces the chance of sack or empty play. I think that the #1 by far ultimate goal of the entire game is getting into 3rd and 5 or easier. It doesn't matter how but we have to do that 66% of the time or more. Run sideways, run quick PA hits to the flat, run the QB.........whatever you think is the best play to get at least 2-3 yards on 1st and 2nd down is what we have to do. HAVE to do.

Very much like the LSU gameplan in 2011.

I know it's a great run defense. I still think we'll run effectively. Play action or really any deep passing will not win us this game imo. It'll just result in Jalen getting sacked or a throw away. We need to complete some quick hitting passes or run some sweeps, really anything to attack the edge is fine. It took us until the last drive to run slants a couple times against Miss State even though they were blitzing the house every play, so I don't expect it to happen.

Our gameplan should resemble what Mullen did against us, honestly.

It may get Jalen killed, but I'd think a lot of bootleg screens that leave Clemson DTs unblocked could pay huge dividends. Basically, find ways to keep Lawrence/Wilkins running / chasing Jalen early = tired DTs late game situation.

I think Clemson DT depth is limited compared to other areas

Agree. Except Jalen will probably just sprint to the sideline and not throw the ball

Our best spurts of running the ball against good defenses have come when we run wide. If we don't seriously commit to trying to establish that then........well we probably won't.

I agree with this 100%. Najee has the size of Bo, but he's quicker. That will help slow those big guys down

Bama needs a scatback ...perhaps one of you good folks will send Daboll some clips of how The Pats use a quick RB in both the passing game and the running game
