Going after Swinney would be something Bill Battle would do b/c it's obvious move. Greg Byrne will work his ninja magic and land us a Midwest boy that can actually coach.

I was really wondering if Dabo excluded Bama from the buyout
I was curious because it would tell us alot about his mindset.
But if course, the mouth breathers in here took the post as provocative and went into attack mode.

I'm sure his agent had it included so he has absolute negotiating power whenever Saban hangs it up.
That said I have no desire for him or his played out schtick anywhere near Tuscaloosa.

Here are the details
In a nutshell, Dabo can leave for the NFL and not owe Clemson a dime.
If he leaves for another university he owes them a buyout. It was $4 mil in 2019 and 2020. It is $3 mil in 2021. It steps down $1 mil every couple of years until it is $0 in 2028.
UNLESS
The other program is Alabama. If he leaves for Bama the buyout is much higher.
In 2022, it would cost him $3 mil to take any college job but Bama. Taking up residence in Tuscaloosa would cost him 4.5 mil. They really are scared that mama will come calling.

that is a very tame buyout for today's standards.

If it were to ever happen then I wish they’d send truckloads of unrolled pennies, with about 450,000 Canadian pennies mixed in just for shits and giggles.

To take this a slightly different direction, instead of going after Dabo or having the athletic director do a coaching search, does anyone believe that Coach Saban is willing to hire and groom a young successor, an up and coming talented coordinator almost ready for an HC job, in Saban's final years? Recently I watched an interview with Stoops and he said Riley was hired with the expectation of following him at OU and Meyer thought Day could follow him at OSU however that became a reality much sooner that Urban expected. Currently up here in the Northeast people are speculating that Belichick is grooming Patricia (sorry Van Basten) for the Pats job. I see this different than the coach in waiting model that blew up on FSU with Bowden/Jimbo and Texas with Brown/Muschamps. You don't want established guys who you know want to push the head coach out (as if anyone could do that to Saban ). I think that would be way better than a coaching search as Saban can pass on his football, recruiting and institutional knowledge over several years however I feel like his competitive nature would prevent it and he probably plans to die on the field in mid headset fling .

He'd wear out his welcome real quick if he played the "Lil Ole Alabama" card as much as he does it at Clemson.
I don’t think that’s the approach he would use at Alabama. I don’t know why we pigeon hole people into a persons when he is doing what he has to at Clemson. I’m sure his minder and approach would change based on the job he is at. Most adults can adapt.

Yeah if you think Dabo is going to turn into a personality like Bryant, Stallings, or Saban just because his paycheck is coming from Alabama I've got some prime beachfront property in Kansas to sell you. Even if his tactics change he's still going to be the goofy jackass he has been for the entirety of his adult life. We tried goofy jackasses. It didn't work.

Exactly. The head coach at Alabama needs to be a serious, no nonsense guy who happens to be the best.
That's just our MO as a program.

Don't get the hate from some of us for Dabo. He's obviously a very good coach and still in his heart loves Alabama. We can and have done a whole lot worse. I would be completely fine with him following Coach Saban and believe he would win big!!
