The Oklahoma defense isn't good enough to be mediocre.

^^^not counting some guys developing and/or Freshman stepping in and playing!!

I'm not overly concerned unless we have about 10 more injuries again!

Yep, Anoma, Alfano, & Shyeim Carter are probably the first 3 off the bench for depth/injuries. We’re straight.

Ridiculous.

Bama's defense had 9 new starters, including the entire secondary, an entirely new coaching staff, except for Tosh who was in his first season as a DC. As Saban had said he expected, the defense was not up to the typical Bama standard. He also said the offense would need to compensate for it. However, the defense was much better than "mediocre." And, one season is not a "trend."

Bama’s defense was not bad in 2018. Except when compared to other Bama defenses since 2008. Still good enough to go 14-0 but everything that could go wrong did against Clemson. All 3 phases lost the game.

Oklahoma also probably wins a championship if that defense is mediocre instead of awful last year... Our defense has talent and Saban will make the hires to help them grow as a unit. It's not like we are stuck with running this year's defense out with that much inexperience every year including being forced to run out a juco corner that we took for needed depth.

Defense helps win championships, but you can't get away with fielding 2 good units, one must be elite and the other good-great and this year our offense was elite and had the worst possible game in the NCG. 2016 we had THE elite defense and the offense faltered. Long term Saban is positioning us to have two elite units and that is something no team can boast year in and year out.

I hope Mayden is not starting. He was a liability in coverage. I would also like to see Carter starting, he just makes plays.

Good grief. Some of you guys need to just step away. We have one loss and you guys are jumping off a cliff. Get a grip.

Man, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, don’t you think?

Alabama lost one game. Badly, but it’s still just one loss. To a team that has been prepping for them since the start of the season to avenge a loss.

Alabama had several injured players, was thin at d-line, and breaking in a new staff. It’s gonna happen. And now, Saban is fixing the leaks and getting things back to normal.

Just chill.

It’s the nature of college football. The transition from high school to college for offensive players is far easier than for defensive players. If you’re a lockdown CB in high school teams aren’t throwing at you very often. And, IMO, a really good defense in today’s college game must have a stout front 7 that can pass rush. We just need to find a few guys that are ready to hunt on that DL.

100% if we have our edge pass rushers this years defense would've been just fine. Losing so much pass rushing ability killed us.

Shy Carter as Star

Seems that Daniel Wright was inline to start at Safety last year then he got injured and in the dog house at the same time. And Kyrig McDonald had a good bit of PT this past year.
I know I am becoming a broken record; but, I sure hope that there is lots of rotation in all aspects of the D this year, esp in the Dline.
with Christian Barmore and Stephon Wynn having a year to get their bodies right and get a bit of playing time, they should be ready to offer some back up.

Seems the new guys from this class could be exciting to watch also..Ready pretty excited about all of the possibilities for 2019 D
Anoma, Bogle, Young, Ingraham, Alfano, Dale, Eboigbe.. all the class truthfully
