If you were one of the top 5 available coaches in CBB would you want to go to a school that has gona to the NCAAT twice in the last 12 years and a dinosaur for a venue?

If I'm any coach, I look at the potential of a job rather than whatever lackluster success other mediocre coaches have had there. All we need is a great coach. See Florida.

Donovan wasnt close to a top 5 coach at the time Florida hired him. We can get a mid major coach, like Donovan was at the time and hope for the best, but those are hit or miss. Not many of them turn into Billy Donovan.

A top coach isnt gonna go a school based on potential.

Billy Donovan and Thad Matta could go to basically any colmege job in the country sans a few who already have legendary coaches why would they pick Alabama?

I wasn't talking about what Donovan was when they hired him. I'm talking about all it takes to turn a program like Bama into a national power is a great coach. And Bama traditionally, had far more success than UF before Donovan took them to a higher level. I think most coaches can see that. Bama, with its truckfulls of money, history of being at least pretty good in basketball, willingness to dump millions into new facilities and a coach, isn't one of the basketball poors like a lot of people, even here, seem to think.

We can make a big hire, and a big hire can transform Bama into a national power immediately. In the past, we just haven't hired the right guy. It's a crap shoot, even with the right guy doing the hiring. Let's hope we get it right this time.

We can offer more money than most schools, are about to rebuild Coleman, and most of these coaches were playing back in the 80s when we had a lot of success and support so they know we can attract talent and put butts in seats.

Also, Byrne is a fairly well respected AD, so they know they will have a good boss.

UA isn't a destination school for basketball, no question. But a guy like Thad Matta wouldn't be scared away from it I don't think. He did make Ohio State a perennial power in basketball. Lots of similarities between Alabama and Ohio State as universities IMO, especially referring to football prowess and tradition.

I do think we hire a good coach I just think realistically it will be someone like Prohm, Hoiberg, or Kelvin Sampson.

Definitley not getting my hopes up for Billy Donovan or some of the other absurd names being thrown around.

Those three are NOT alike. There is a clear #1, #2, and #3 on that list.
