Sounds Like Bama Is Considering Mixing Up The OL

Barrett Jones and Drew DeArmond both hinting that there has been some experimenting going on with the OL recently.
Barrett Jones mentioned D.Brown, and M.Womack as guys that might have a chance to work their way into the starting five.
Sounds like Lester Cotton could be battling for his job.
Barrett has a couple of friends still on the staff so if he says they are taking a look at their options on the OL I believe it.

Kind of surprising at this stage. I assume for run blocking?

Leatherwood was dinged up in this last game, and I thought maybe we could see Brown at LG and Cotton at RG, but it doesn't sound like that's what's going on.
Sounds more like a couple of OL are pushing for Cotton job.
I dunno. Barrett Jones and Drew D both mentioned it so I thought I would pass it along.

Per BOL, Cotton is hampered by an ankle injury.
quote:
-- Offensive guard Lester Cotton (ankle) did not do much early on but joined team drills at left guard with the second team. He lined up with Scott Lashley to his left and Chris Owens, Joshua Casher and Matt Womack to his right. Womack also saw reps at left guard with the twos.
-- The first-team offensive line consisted of, from left to right, Jonah Williams, Deonte Brown, Ross Pierschbacher, Alex Leatherwood and Jedrick Wills. Brown saw snaps at left and right guard with the first-team offensive line during Saturday’s game against Missouri.

What does Barrett Jones do for a living nowadays?

Womack is a brutal run blocker, and more nimble on his feet and athletic than cotton and is a better pass blocker too (did a fine job last season at tackle). Makes sense to me if he took that left guard spot

I thought it was because of leatherwood injury.

From what I’ve seen of Brown I’m not impressed. He gets physically dominated at times.

Was gonna post this same thing but hate to be critical at times . Looks too bottom heavy and slow . Only keyed on him a few times during Mizzou game but didn’t look impressive at all. Coaches see them everyday though

they want their best 5 out there and they like to give their next two off the bench a lot of PT. So this is what it looks like should one go down with a serious injury.

Brown was getting mauled against Mack vs A&M, it was bad.
He still looks like he's pushing 380 too...

Cotton has been a liability since he got to Bama.
Womack makes a better guard then tackle. Try him at left guard.

From left to right, Jonah Williams, Deonte Brown, Ross Pierschbacher, Alex Leatherwood and Jedrick Wills.
That seemed to be the starting lineup.

Acxording to the following article Cotton's ankle was injured during practice prior to the Mizzou game.
Nick Saban: Lester Cotton competing; DeVonta Smith questionable (BamaOnLine)
quote:
Alabama guard Lester Cotton has either appeared limited or taken reps with the second-team offensive line this week during the media viewing periods of practice.
Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban spoke about the senior following Day 3 of the No. 1 team’s preparation for the Tennessee Volunteers, but he provided very little in terms of an update.
“What kind of update? He played in the last game,” Saban said Wednesday. “He’s competing for a job just like everybody else around here. He twisted his ankle a little bit, he probably wasn’t 100 percent the last game. But he has every opportunity to go out there and do things the way he needs to do them so he can go out and play. There’s competition at every position. Some players think that I don’t like them. I like performance. That’s what I like.”
Cotton suffered a sprained ankle last week in practice but was able to start at left guard in the game against Missouri. Later in the contest, however, Cotton was replaced by Deonte Brown.
A local product (Central High), Cotton has started 31 games at either left or right guard in his career. But recently, whether because of injury or performance, he has practiced with the twos.
Brown, a redshirt sophomore, is listed at 6-foot-4, 344 pounds and is in better playing shape. “He’s gotten his weight down a lot,” junior left tackle Jonah Williams said earlier this season. “I’m really proud of him about that. He’s a guy with elite body quickness. Even when he was way heavier than he should be, he was still moving quick out there. Now that he’s at a better weight, he’s playing with elite power and quickness. That’s a good thing. Like the rest of us, he’s got work to do, but I think he’s got a good mindset and he has been performing really well.”
As for other injuries, Saban said he has nothing new to report and “everybody seems to be OK.”
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (knee) has practiced all week, and the current plan is to play him at Tennessee this weekend. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring) is the only Alabama player that has been limited in all open periods of practice for the Third Saturday in October.
“Smitty’s the only guy that I would say would be questionable for this game,” Saban said. “He hadn’t been able to practice to this point. … He hasn’t been able to practice. So, I haven’t seen him do anything. Walk around with me, talk to me.”
The Alabama-Tennessee game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT (CBS) on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Any word on Ruggs? Was watching last night how that dirty #47 tried to break his leg off

Ruggs went back into the game vs Mizzou. He was a little gimpy, but he's probably a'ight now.

That’s the game I was thinking of as well. He was getting blown up in the snap in the second half when OM defense had been all the field all game long.
