So, let me get this straight about our kicking game . . .

Our best FG kicker was in punting and got hurt again
Our backup FG kicker was handling FGs and missed one before the half.
Our backup punter kicked the shite out of the ball when finally allowed to punt.
Makes for a kinda fricked up evening.

Anybody know if Perine can kick FGs??
Why would we put Reichard into punt when we had Perine? Now instead of resting Reichard and potentially getting him back for LSU he is even more hurt than he was to start with AND we are stuck with Bulovas

Alabama has missed more FG than any other FBS program over the past 12 seasons.
We led the nation last year in missed extra points, missing the most we ever have in school history.
It's been clear there are just major systmatic problems in the special teams in regards to placekicking. No idea what the issue is but this isn't just bad luck.

This is actually a great topic. First off WTF
Why on earth would Reichard be in the game if he had a hip injury? Punting is probably 1 of 3 things that would re injury that area. So he’s out again. Bul can usually make a PAT but a FG forget it.
Perine is a fricking stud, and made a tackle. Leave him as the punter, send Delong packing and leave Reichard alone until he is 100%.

Yeah have no idea what the hell the staff was thinking for Reichard to go out there and get hurt on his very 1st punt

I suppose the only silver lining is that all of the atrociousness we were forced to witness led to the backup punter being allowed to punt in the game, proving that he shouldn’t be backup to anybody right now.
Let’s hope he’s consistent! Good punters are underrated game changers in close games.

Honestly I doubt Saban ever sees these guys kick at Practice outside of team drills for Special teams. He probably gets a rundown from Banks and goes from there.

Perine during warmups was out kicking all the other guys with ease. WTH has he been all year?

Guessing perhaps Saban has been concerned with height and/or hang time. That last punt had distance but seemed a bit of a low line drive.

Saban might want to stick to secondary.. seems we need a lot of help there

Is it really that uncommon for the better player to be riding the bench?
God only knows how many other mistakes there are in our depth chart
Mac Jones over Taulia is a mistake that hopefully won’t bite us in the arse.
I’m still wondering WTH is Barmore on first and second down. I mean Barmore is an easy one, and the staff still isn’t starting him.

Let me guess he is a senior and will be gone after this year?

Yeah. He was the kicker and punter for Prattville.

Damn. Does anyone actually understand the back ground in decision making?
Hip flexor injury - straight swing puts less stress on the injury than does soccer style swing.
Saban likely was expecting 1 or 2 punts the entire game. A couple of punts would be a good way to measure fatigue and progress. Kicking the expected lots of placement kicks and kick-off kicks would be a good way to inflame the injury.
Our big issue with punting is consistency. Reichard is the most consistent of the punter group.
Perine has a live leg but his consistency was a question earlier in the season...he has continued to improve on that.
If Perine can kick-off and keep it in-bounds, that would be a good way to increase his comfort level in live game conditions with the added benefit of a real athlete added to coverage.
My guess is the plan was to improve consistency and maintain his redshirt so the kicking (punt) was not a concern for several years.
If the redshirt is coming off now, time to find out where else he can help. Part of coaching choices is future roster management.

Barmore is good at penetration. Barmore cheats on run stop/gap control. Barmore makes guesses that hang the LB's and other DL guys out trying to cover his mistakes. On a 3rd and long, his guessing is less likely to hurt us and the benefit is a big plus. On 1st & 2nd his guessing is more of a negative than a help.
Kwon plays because he is trusted to do his assignment. He does not have the lateral quickness to do his base job and cover for Barmore's screw-ups but he tries anyway.
If Kwon has a two gap assignment, he controls his two gaps. But controlling his two gaps and getting penetration is not part of his skill set.
Barmore can create havock that Kwon could never hope to create because of his lateral quickness to go with his strength. The problem is that the havock can be against the opponent on one play then against his own team mates the next play because he "quickly" ran himself out of the play and left a gap for someone else to try to cover.

Totally love your content at all times but, former kicker/punter here who had a hip flexor injury. No way I or the coaches would have let me kick or punt. Thinking back any movement soccer style or hinge was painful.

I was an oddity of a kicker. I was always the emergency back-up kicker in high school. Year before me was an SEC kicker/punter with the square toe straight-on kicker style. The year behind me was an SEC punter and soccer style kicker.
I kicked soccer style with my left leg (kick-off) and square toe straight-on kicker with my right leg (placement). I sucked as a punter since I could never guess which direction the ball was going to go. So I stuck with FB/TE/OLB went to Alabama as a FB but after early injury played OLB. They wanted me to move to ILB but I could not process the info from all different directions at ILB the thinking slowed my reactions (like Harris & Lee are now experiencing) Lee and Harris are improving (I never did).
