We know that really the whole defense was off most of the night against state, but I think the guys who may need to step it up is the secondary. We know about the LB issues but really I'm not sure what really can be done there. I think they will play better but auburn will still get theirs.I thought the back end guys had one of their worst games of the season. Poor tackling, untimely penalties, and bad coverage at times. Some missed calls early against state, but guys like Hootie and brown really need to play some better ball. Auburn has good but not great WRs , but the most important thing for the dbs will to be not be as undisciplined. Auburn has some pretty good speed so we will need a great game from the back end

I thought Hootie had a good game against State.

Yeah I don't get all of the Hootie hate from Saturday.

I think that the "key" is getting pressure on Stidham and making him uncomfortable. The secondary will definitely have to be on their a-game though, particularly in helping out in run defense outside of the tackles, and playing disciplined in coverage.

I don't get it either. He bounced off of some guys on running plays Saturday, but I think that he's played pretty well overall. The fact is that Fitzgerald and Williams are just big dudes.

People just overact in the moment during stressful games. Minkah, our best player, is still hurt. (Saban spoke to this today)We have a strong secondary.

What you need to worry about is how we are getting run on every week and Auburn has the best rushing attack we will face thus far.

That's scary.

Technically, MSU has the better rushing attack, but point taken.

Fitz will be healthy by Auburn and the key to this game is getting to Stidham. If he has time to throw we are done. Corners can only cover for so long.

AU has battled injuries in the backfield this season. I don't think MSU could do what AU did to UGA running the ball. Both of them are strong rushing teams so I agree with you.

The other thing is AU runs an "eye candy" rushing attack like LSU did to us. Lots of motions and misdirections to try to get people out of place. I'm worried about the inexperience at LB struggling with this again. Good news is Stidham isn't going to beat us with his legs.

I don't want to come across as hating, but state had some guys in there who hasn't played much out wide just like our linebackers. They converted quite a few 3rd and mediums that shouldn't have been given up. I give them props they looked much better in the fourth but I just hope they (and the entire defense really) can be more effective earlier in the games going forward.

Where has Diggs disappeared off to? I am assuming he is in the doghouse from the punt return situation.

It's like you guys don't realize they can't run a read option with Stidham.

Get a grip man. As bad as Bama's run defense looked Saturday they still held MSU to their lowest total of the season and the lowest YPC of the season. Them being able to get in the end zone on the ground multiple times was concerning, but I think we may be a bit too chicken little about the current state of the defense.

I don't think we need to blitz Stidham. An Auburn poster pointed out that in the loss to Clemson, Clemson didn't blitz much and dropped everyone back in coverage which confused Stidham. In the loss to LSU, after blitzing early and getting burned badly, the just brought a man in the box to play the run and played coverage. Georgia blitzed and got burned for it

Maybe right on but we don't have the DL to pressure without blitzing. I am sure we can offer some exotic coverage's but we are a man to man scheme for the most part and use the blitz to cause pressure. Our 2016 unit would give Ole boy nightmares but if we only rush four then he will have all day to pick us apart and he will. Clemson had the DL to do it and we don't.

What are the chances that at least one touchdown comes from Hastings running wide open?

We were a tired, beat up football team on defense Saturday night. We won't look like that in Auburn.

If they still did serious read option stuff, it'd be 75%. But without that, much lower.
