Except this isn't what you said in the OP

"Could be the guy" and "will start at QB" are not the same thing. He absolutely could be the guy.

What I said in my OP is that behind closed doors, Saban is grinning ear to ear. He landed a whale of a QB, and he thinks that Bryce Young is probably gonna start in 2020. That’s the gist of my post

I don't disagree with you. I think Mac with start against USC. He has been in the system and started the last three games.

One thing I think is definite is there are going to be a lot of Mac vs Young arguments like we had with Jalen vs Tua arguments.

Your OP didn’t have “probably” anywhere in it.

The title of the thread is “Saban Thinks Bryce Young Will Start at QB”

No maybe, no probably

If you think something is probably going to happen, then you think it’s going to happen.

Headlines are supposed to be spicy. Go to journalism school mkay

No, “probably” is much different than talking in certainties.

Not everyone thought that, and apparently Saban didn't. However, many thought Tua could be the guy and we saw how that turned out. I could be wrong, but Mac Jones seems more comparable to Barnett than to Tua, while Young seems more comparable to Tua than to Barnett. Saban might not even announce a QB1/starter for the season opener vs USC.

Barnett was the #1 QB in his class, ranked 6th overall and all I heard all year long his true freshman year is that he should be starting over Coker.

Supposedly he was looking awesome in practice, had tons of confidence and the team was behind him.

He was certainly going to be the starter the 2nd year, and yet instead it was a 4 star true freshman, ranked #192 in his class, who gets the job.

There are just so many factors involved that it's impossible to say that a QB is going to be starter just because they look awesome before coming on campus. Saban is going to play the one he trusts and thinks gives us the best chance to win, and there are factors that go beyond anything we see.

But we do know that Mac Jones has many of those things. So it's going to be tough to knock him off the starting position.

It's actually pretty rare that the fanbase in general is correct about these things.

Didn't you already catch a ban for attacking another fan? You are a grown man and you need to learn how to disagree or form a retort without attacking the poster with childish name calling.

The worst part is I knew this thread was coming and exactly how it would go lol.

Jalen, Bateman, and Blake all over again.

Not to split hairs but according to 247 Sports, Barnett was the number 2 rated pro style QB out of high school. He rated 0.9984. I think most of the fanfare about him was created by his personal trainer/coach. The guy had a strange, winding release of the football and was scared to death when the lights came on and he was the guy.
Bryce is the number 1 dual threat QB with a 0.9994 rating. I'm not sure if he comes in and wins the starting job right away. I'll be surprised if it happens but I won't be blown away by it.

I DID go to journalism school. Headlines are supposed to give you a quick factual glimpse into the story's contents. Spiciness doesn't enter into it.

That is, for those who take journalism seriously. For those who just want headlines to create clickbait … well, they're a little lower on the evolutionary scale.

you are the DA here. OUr two returning Sophomores will never start at Bama unless we have a lot of injuries. Lia is no where near as talented as Tua and Tyson is slow and not accurate. But either way Saban is not disrespecting the process by insinuating Bryce will start. But he is an EE so developing him and all EE's is important. Duh.

We are going to run off a lot of good QBs if we say they are not as talented as Tua. You just dont know until they get a chance. Who would have thought the lsu Qb would have played like he did. And, btw, Saban said the same thing about Mac Jones. "Its not fair to compare him to Tua"

not comparing anyone to Tua as he is a generation thing. I doubt Lia would have had an offer had it not been for Tua. I just dont see Lia and Paul ever being a starting QB at Bama. And Lia is probably the biggest portal guy who may enter coming out of spring ball. And if the new transfer thing comes true then it could be more of a reason for him to enter the portal.
