Nick Saban now owns another record.
Josh Jacobs, who was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the first round Thursday night, became Saban’s 34th first round draft pick.
No coach has ever produced more first round picks during the common draft era, according to ESPN.
Saban entered Thursday with 31 first round picks, which was two behind legendary Penn State coach Joe Paterno in that category. Saban then added three more first round picks Thursday night — Quinnen Williams, Jonah Williams and Jacobs.
Of Saban’s 34 first round picks, 29 have come during his time at Alabama, including 11 over the last three years.

6 losses came in his first year coaching at Alabama ...did he have any first round draft picks his first year? If not, that even makes it more remarkable!

Saban had zero 1st round draft picks his first year (2007) & zero in 2008. In fact Alabama had absolutely no players picked in the draft in 2008.
Andre Smith was Saban's first 1st round draft pick at Alabama in 2009.

Geez, we were in an awful place. The thought of ever being that bad again makes me want to quit watching sports.

If memory serves me correct, 2007 had NO ONE drafted from Alabama in any round. I think, we had some sign some free agent stuff, but I don't think there were any draftees. May have been 2006, but I think it was Saban's first year because the LSU folks piled on (while they could).

Alabama had Le’Ron McClain, Ken Darby, and Ramzee Robinson drafted in 2007.

2007 wasn’t on Saban anyway. He was the head coach at Alabama a mere four months when the draft occurred.
