A. Schedule a better opponent.
B. Play the game at night when it's cooler. The SEC NW had two unused channels that game could've been televised on last Saturday night.
The students don't give a shite and rather be on their phone anyway.
Yo Nick....never mention the F students again for it is only going to get worse every year with kids. They don't care about football.
Yeah I get that. My post was more about improving overall attendance, which was also low for that game.

Bama used to have what they called Band Day back in the late 50's when high school band dressed and got a seat vs Furman or Tampa. This stuff isn't brand new. I am hopeful that Nick never does address students and Bama football again.

I'm normally on his side, but this is ridiculous. I would not blame anyone for missing all or part of last week's game. He should have just let it go this time.

Students pay tuition and honestly have more of a right to the game then your normal fan. After all, with out the students and school we wouldn’t have Bama. I get where Saban is upset but at the end of the day those students have paid more to the school then your off the street fan and have a right to those seats whether they use them or not.. It’s COLLEGE football not pro.

As a student, i feel like the student section was really solid until halftime. Which was about the time the heat got bearable because the right side was in the shade. So i would've liked to see more people stay, but i understand because everyone was dripping sweat at the point. I was honestly still happy with how many people we had left at the end of the game, i thought we would have half what we did by then. The tide loyalty program actually made a difference imo.

What's your solution? Leaving early is an annoyance. And when they don't show up at all, that's a different problem.
Allocate some of those seats for Tide Pride waiting list and risk offending potential future boosters?
Package the shite games and offer family friendly prices?
Risking a few of those seats accordingly, might be a compromise .
Petition the NCAA to require P5 teams to only schedule other P5 teams. Add a 10th SEC game. Would improve CFB so much.

I agree. Maybe Ms Terry told him the same. He talked much differently today:
Everything Saban said in first presser of South Carolina week (BOL | Segment)
quote:
"One thing I would like to say is I know it was a difficult day for our fans because of the circumstances surrounding the weather and I’d like to thank the fans for supporting the team and a lot of people hanging in there to try to support the team. I think the players really appreciate it. We know it was a difficult circumstance for a lot of folks, and hopefully our administration will continue to work to try to play some of these games at a different time."

Saban got pissed about the scheduling question and it snowballed into the attendance and students. He more or less back tracked in his presser yesterday.
I was there Saturday for the '89 team reunion and it was hotter than 3 Hells!!! The SEC office has got to do something about these 11 am and 3pm kickoffs and thry to even them out with the later games. I call bullshite on LSwho and "tradition"!!! How the hell does Arkansas get San Jose State at 6:30 when we have to play Southern Miss at 11?

Its always been hot in Sept. We just didnt have the fat TV contracts back in the 80s and 90s. You didnt have games on TV from 11 till midnight and you didnt have the big screen TVs, and kids didnt have anything to do but go to the games.
The trade off for the big TV dollars is just going to be a drop in attendance. And at Alabama, we are spoiled fans. We will probably never have the talent at QB and receivers that we have today, and I see people in this tread say they barely even watched the game on TV. Good grief.

Nick and his team were out in that heat the whole time. They didn’t get to take a game off because of weather. They didn’t get to leave early. They didn’t get to stop competing.
We want Nick to be true to his word about sixty minutes of effort and run up the score with the reserves going all out, but we don’t want to give 60 minutes in our area.
Who would accept from the coaches the following, “We played poorly throughout most of the second half because it was really hot out there and New Mexico State is not really an opponent worthy of our full attention”?

The students aren't on scholarship to be at the game

I'm getting sick and tired of hearing this same song and dance from Nick after every drubbing of the little sisters of the poor.
Instead of bitching at the students, try bitching at the people who are responsible for scheduling these awful opponents and mid-afternoon kick times in the hottest part of the year.
EDIT: I just read that he came back a day later and addressed this issue as well. Good for him.

But they want to wear the t-shirt and boast about their team being champions.
And, BTW most of the band, the cheerleaders, the student managers and trainers aren’t on scholarship either.

But they knew what they were getting into when they signed up. Same with the players and coaches. There's no obligation for the other students/fans to stay.

They are also in peak physical condition, are trained to play in the heat, and have several methods of cooling off on the sideline.

It's much closer to 270+ minutes.

Make it a dome and pipe in some AC.
I won't even buy a ticket to watch a game in 100 degree heat.

On the way home from T-town on Sunday some radio sports broadcaster made the comment that we are paying NFL game prices for a product well below those standards. I would have to agree.
1. Opponent quality. Not much can be done here, but there is no excuse for playing these games during the day in the heat. This isn't the 60's. It's not manly to go out and play or watch in those conditions. You either have people complaining about the heat or you have people complaining about late drives after a night game. Spoiled is putting it lightly.
2. Concessions. Radio guy mentioned routinely missing nearly a quarter of play to get items. I normally go about 3-5 minutes before the start of the second half. Sometimes miss a few minutes of the 3rd quarter. Love the idea of helping out local organizations, but professional service would make a difference. Also, need to up the variety of items.
There really is no complete solution. Too many distractions now with phones and multimedia and having a high def experience at home at a fraction of the cost of season tickets just can't be beaten.
I'm keeping my families season tickets as long as my dad is still around. We are at 66+ years of participation, but I just can't justify much longer.
