the side judge told him the 1 sec wouldn't matter because "they won't be able to get the play off anyway"

Just shows the incompetence of the officiating

The side judge was telling the truth. They shouldn’t have gotten it off. It was an abortion of a call. Nobody should “blame” that call as the loss, but it was an absolute incompetent and egregious error. There would be riots if that call went in our favor. It’s shameful that this conference employs officials that don’t fully grasp the rules. This is a billion dollar industry

Incredibly terrible luck or whatever you want to call it.
Had the time just run out, no problem.
Had they tackled him with about 2 or 3 seconds to go, clock would have restarted fairly quickly, and they wouldn't have been able to to get the FG team out there. no problem.

Actually you can get a play off on a field goal attempt. All you have to do is snap the ball as soon as the whistle blows. It’s a BS call but it is what it is.

I think he should have filed an official protest at that point. That should not have been allowed to happen.

It didn't decide the game, but it was wrong and there is a case to be made.

Another fix would be to put the basketball clock on the scoreboard with tenths of a second. One full second is plenty of time to get a play snap on the way....
0.2 seconds??? Probably not enough.

Since the runner was tackled in a pile, I thought they might’ve concluded after review that timing ran out as originally called on field would have been announced as “call on the play stands”.

It was a very ridiculous sequence of events.

yeah, I think they missed that review. the timing of when the runner was down wasn’t obvious.

Yeah, they overturned the ruling on the field because Gus told them to, and then Gus told them to let them kick a field goal, so they did.

Right. The problem wasn’t that they gave them 1 second. The problem was that they added a second, stopped the clock, let them line up, gave their kicker a pep talk, and let them snap it on the whistle

Yep, the field goal kicking team shouldn't have been allowed to get set before the clock started

Thinking about this, had the opposite happen, Bama was given the chance to run the FG team out on the field, forget making it, do you think our incompetent team would have been able to even be ready to snap the ball as the whistle blew?

That’s what gets me. Auburn seemed more prepared in those moments than we’re were.

The last, most important drive of the season for Alabama that ended up with the missed FG, Alabama had THREE false start penalities. Inexcusable

Even with Brown physically signaling to Dickinson, our guys couldn’t get it right. SMDH

Absolutely infuriating and it’s why I don’t specifically lay this game on the defense. There’s clearly a fundament problem with our program right now when it comes to discipline.

The problem I have is they were allowed to change personnel on an official timeout. That DIRECTLY impacts the outcome of the game. No matter which way the play review goes, you shouldn't be allowed to change personnel during an official timeout.

Discipline or lack of, is puzzling to say the least. Definite noticeable change in the last 2-3 years.

I’d like to know the analytics on our strip first, tackle second technique. If there is a YASA - yards after strip attempt - statistic, we have to lead even the Big 12 teams there. Defense can’t get off the field because we can’t tackle without a strip attempt.

Would be interesting to compare the risk vs reward. When McKinney went in high on Shivers on the TD, I felt bad for him getting his helmet blown off and giving up the score.
