"Kimpson and Bamberg have floated similar ideas in the past, but those did not generate enough interest to require a vote."

Just imagining how cool it would be to walk into the UA Book store and see aisles of player jerseys and knowing that a cut of my purchase is going right to them.

Sounds like fantasy land.
Who gets a cut of the #2 jersey? Henry? Hurts? Surtain? Do they get it for perpetuity? Can the university protect it’s branding if an athlete deals with some sketchy businesses? Since the athletes are now profiting off of their exposure from the University, can the University enforce a non-compete clause? Is there a cap allowed to prevent this from becoming an open bidding war for players?
It’s just not as easy as saying “They should get some cash for their likeness.”

That would have to be worked out, but I imagine a blank #2 would be licensed to the player current;y wearing it while a #2 with an actual name would always go to that player.

NCAA wouldn't come close to regulating all the greed and selfishness associated with all those grubby hands in this cookie jar. And they know it.

Bama stops that bullshite by taking the names off the back.
By the time Musso, Nathan, and, Ingram get their cut from 22, Najee won't see a dime.
Seriously though...take the names off and the players don't get jack shite.

This is stupid.
What would give Najee the rights to a 22 with no name on it? Musso sold more 22s than Najee ever will.
Player doesn't get shite without his name on it.

In any event, it wouldn't be only apparel. It might be tv, print, or www ads for whatever product.

They also would probably not win a court case.
This article LINK indicates changes may come sooner than later
"The association is open to updating its rules to better fit the 21st century, according to NCAA Board of Governors Chair Michael Drake, but wants those changes to be made on a national scale rather than state by state.
'We need to look at [NIL rules] carefully. My understanding broadly of name, image and likeness and the implications of those restrictions has changed really over the last several years and continues to evolve. We need to make sure our rules and guidelines evolve forward. We're not the association of the 20th century. We need to make sure we have 21st century rules.'
Drake said a national change is much more desirable for the NCAA."

I was replying specifically to the stupid comment about jerseys.
And that was not even considering the very obvious Title IX violation when the book store at Ferguson Center doesn't stock softball and women's basketball jerseys, women's swimsuits, etc, etc.

I could see it being all atletic wear gear sold at the bookstore being allocated between athletes, not to a certain player. Then the player can capitalize on his it her likeness or "celebrity" in other ways to line the pockets.

Is this a trick question? Whoever's NAME is on the jersey.
No one get anything for a blank number.
