Does CNS keep the foot on the gas pedal vs MSU now that he has to impress the committee? I think he will.

(Note: no matter how upset we are with Saturday, we will kill MSU)

We are going to have to blow everyone out, period. Most people on the committee like Alabama but, some are looking for anything.

Will running up the score on Mississippi State really impress the committee?

Our issue will be no good wins against good teams. We've already proven we can blow out bad teams.

Much like Ohio State with Maryland last weekend, the only thing that the committee notices in games like that are negatives. Whether its 47-10 or 66-10 I'm not sure it really matters much.

Based on the way teams have moved the ball against Bama this season, he may have to keep his foot on the gas. This ain't your typical Bama defense.

I think the Iron Bowl could matter. Obviously we’d have to win first, but crushing AU could possibly (not a high chance still) help us. Especially if it came to us and Oregon.

Definitely agree with that.

Our best path to the playoff, IMHO, is

- Auburn beats Georgia
- Baylor beats Oklahoma, Oklahoma beats Baylor in Dallas
- Alabama handles Auburn (it doesn't have to be 40-7, but a double digit type win)
- Oregon beats Utah

At that point you are looking at Alabama and Oregon for the last spot - both with 1 loss and with Alabama having hammered Oregon's loss on the road, and with Oregon having 1 good win against a Utah team with basically no good ones.

It isn't an absurd route, but it's still unlikely.

And I'd like to add, at this point, I just want to beat Auburn.

The rest is whatever - if it happens then count ourselves lucky again. If not, beat Auburn, go 11-1, go win a "meaningless" bowl game and celebrate a good season in which we had tons of issues and youth.

You have been debbie downer all day.

You know what might be the case? The teams we could be competing with might also have the issue of "no good wins against good teams." And those teams might not even have the benefit of "proving they can blow out bad teams."

If Oregon wins out they might be 1-1 against the CFP Top 25 (AU (L) and Utah (W)). Would be the same as Bama except the respective Auburn games would be an interesting data point.

If Utah wins out they might be 1-0 against the CFP Top 25 (Oregon (W)) WITH a loss to an unranked team.

The CFP doesn't think highly of the PAC-12 except those two teams (no other Pac 12 team ranked) so winning that conference might not be the trump card everyone assumes.

All that's to say that if the margin is razor thin the CFP committee might well indeed be looking at how teams dominated (or didn't dominate) the the unranked teams on the schedule.

I swear I'm not trying to be. I'm really not super sad or mad or whatever, I'm just trying to look at the landscape with clear eyes and it doesn't look real good for us.

Our schedule is just bad. I think we could easily have beaten most team in the Top 25 - but we didn't play them. That sucks, but it is what it is. Our resume is going to be ugly! I mean, that's just facts!

I do agree that our best shot is to compete against the Pac 12 champion, and it probably really needs to be Oregon. If it is us vs Oregon, and we've just beaten Auburn on the Plains, I think we have a very legitimate shot.

But if Oklahoma wins out or Baylor goes undefeated then it will be moot.

I expect the Miss State to be a real struggle since Bama will have a case of the poor pitiful me's. Beating the cow college at their gig is really going to a struggle. If their future StiffArm winner gets hot or lucky then Bama will need #13 to be at his best for us to win. This Bama defense ain't getting any better in 2019. When you run out #36 as a starter on defense then you're in a world of shite.

What would be glorious in the Big 12 is for Les Miles to lead the mighty Kansas Jayhawks to a victory over Baylor the last game of the season to pave the way for Bama to get a rematch with LSU.

But actually, doesn't matter, because I don't think running it up would do much for our playoff chances and Saban avoids it like the plague anyway.

The best thing we could do for our playoff chances within our control is to blow Auburn out. We need to be pedal to the medal for 60 minutes, and hopefully the coaches know this. If we can beat Auburn by 20-30 points in Auburn, that will make a big impression - especially if Auburn beats Georgia

Running up the score isn't going to accomplish much and could end up being a negative if it's done with starters.

What needs to happen is other teams lose. That's really the bottom line. Just go ahead and figure it's not going to happen, and be pleasantly surprised/happy if it does.

It's college football and the margin for error is small. We've been lucky in the past, but each time it wasn't expected.

Agree - let's just hope we play 3 solid ballgames, specifically the last 1, and see what things fall.

Scenario that worries me is UGA beating LSU in ATL.

Yeah that these playoff possibilities would be moot if LSU doesn’t win out.
