ESPN

quote:

Officials said Foster, now 24, "physically attacked" his live-in girlfriend, leaving "her bruised and with a ruptured eardrum." Officials said Foster dragged her by her hair, physically threw her out of the house and punched her in the head eight to 10 times. Foster is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in San Jose. He faces charges of domestic violence with an allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury, forcefully attempting to prevent a victim from reporting a crime, and possession of an assault weapon -- all felonies. In addition, he was charged with misdemeanor possession of a large-capacity weapon magazine. During a search of the home, police found a Sig Sauer 516 and a large-capacity magazine, both of which are illegal to possess in California. If convicted, officials said he could face more than 11 years in prison.

Another sad situation.

What the hell is wrong with people like this? What kind of uncontrollable rage does one have that would allow them to do something this horrible and throw away millions of dollars in the process? My prayers are with the victim.

I honestly wonder how much it is related to repeated blows to the head. This seems to happen a lot with football players.

Unfortunately, domestic abuse is supposedly at shocking levels in the NFL and just goes unreported

It shouldn't be surprising though, there are a ton of things that possibly may contribute

- Head trauma is being linked to erratic emotional behavior/states + aggression

- Roid rage is real and many NFL players are on PEDs/testosterone enhancing products

- Inability to silo/turn off aggression/intensity from the necessities of playing as an ultra voilent, smashmouth NFL LB

All factors that I'm sure will used by the defense team, but this is bad. If this is true, Reuben needs to go away for a long time.

A lot of research studies suggest that brain trauma is directly linked with violent behavior

I was always worried about what would happen to this guy one he got out of the Bama program and got that big contract. Not surprised in the least. He has some real legal jeopardy although the assault weapon charge is bullshite.

I really didn't believe he would be in this kind of trouble. I would have bet the farm that he would have gotten into IRS trouble.

Few things here.

1) Roid rage is false. Numerous studies have shown that to be so. For example;

quote:

Any life-time use of AAS was associated strongly with conviction for a violent crime [2.7 versus 0.6% in convicted and non-convicted men, respectively; odds ratio (OR)?=?5.0, 95% confidence interval (CI)?=?2.7-9.3]. However, this link was substantially reduced and no longer significant when controlling for other substance abuse (OR?=?1.6, 95% CI?=?0.8-3.3). Controlling for IQ, psychological functioning, ADHD, personality disorder symptoms and childhood SES did not reduce the risk further.

LINK You're far more likely to beat your wife if drinking.

2)
quote:

Head trauma is being linked to erratic emotional behavior/states + aggression

Correlation=/=Causation for incidents like this. Socioeconomic upbringing also has links to domestic violence. Poverty is the biggest predictor of violent tendencies. It's not exactly surprising that the vast majority of DV incidents in football are from black youth raised in poor socioeconomic areas. If it was CTE related you'd see an equivalent rate amongst races in each position.

Unfortunately this gets brought up as a defense for Aaron Hernandez when the blatant culprit is more likely his father dying in his youth (psychological/developmental trauma) and him joining the bloods in high school.

That being said, Reuben is screwed and rightfully so if these allegations are true. I hope he seeks proper help when he gets out because he's likely going to do some time.

He deserves jail time for punching her. The gun charge is bullshite.

punched her in the head eight to 10 times.

While this shithead deserves jail, this part is added by the GF or the AD for effect. I've seen the guy up close. If he'd hit her in the head this many times, she'd be dead.

Yeah, that gave me some pause. Interested to see what comes out of his trial.

Obv not at all for violence against women, but never rule out how fricking crazy and physically violent women can be to provoke something like this.
I'm sure that was a major cause as well

This was more predictable than Simba overthrowing Scar as the king of Pride Rock. The signs were all there. Violent football player? Check. Dumb as a bag of bricks? Check. Got an AU tattoo and then signed with Alabama? Check.

It's sad, but this is some of the least surprising news ever. It's a testament to Nick Saban's ability to keep some of these players out of serious trouble while they're here.

For anyone that has ever met the guy... this is not a shock. You pulled for him to make good decisions on his own, but that’s all you can do.
