Going with experience over youth with this one. I must say, I'm a little surprised. I thought he would go after another up and comer similar to the Pruitt hire.

Can he recruit? I'm a little wary of hiring anyone who has been associated with Colorado in the last 7 or 8 years.

He spent the 2010 season as the co-defensive coordinator at the University of Arizona,
quote:

At CU, he had most recently served as secondary coach for four seasons (2006-09), the last three as defensive passing game coordinator, after returning in 2006 to the state of Colorado for the fourth time in his professional career.

quote:

Brown, 54, had resurfaced at CU in January 2006, named to the staff of new Colorado head coach Dan Hawkins following the completion of the 2005 National Football League season. He wrapped up his fourth and final year as a defensive assistant with the NFL's New Orleans Saints under coach Jim Haslett. In that 2005 season, the Saints' pass defense ranked third in the entire NFL, allowing a paltry 178 yards per game. A 15-year NFL coaching veteran, developing top notch defensive backs became his specialty as he was often sought after for new coaching staffs around the league, working with six different teams in his professional career.

Surprised by this hire but I don't question Saban's staffing decisions or his recruiting.

Same. The young coaches tend to be better recruiters, the older coaches tend to be better position coaches. Always trying to find that perfect balance. Surprised we would choose to go with an older DB coach with NFL experience since we already have that with CNS.

As bad as our secondary was at times this year I'll take a veteran coach all day. I know some guys had to play out of position at times this year, but I like the hire.

No one else is reporting this so I wouldn't write it in stone just yet.

Loved that part. Sounds like this guy really knows how to coach them up!

Looks to be a sold hire which should come as no surprise.
