Rest In Peace, coach .....
I remembered him on the sideline. Was Shula the quarterback then?

One of those coaches that people don't realize had such a huge impact on the game. He laid the foundation for the Giants championship teams, giving BIll Parcells and Bill Belicheck their start in football. He also co-created an offense that would later help New England become the greatest dynasty in NFL history.

RIP Coach. I still remember the post game interview he gave after Van Tiffin kicked the 57 yarder to beat Auburn. He was grinning ear to ear. Thanks for your devotion to the University of Alabama not only as a Coach, but as an outstanding player.

Yes, Shula was one of Perkin's QBs.
1983 was Walter Lewis' senior season. The next year, Shula split the job with Vince Sutton. 1985 and 86 were all Shula and he was pretty danged good.

I don't know if anyone has read Bill Parcel's book. It has a lot of Alabama connections. Discusses how Parcel's met Bryant and got to observe Bama practices and he modeled his style on Bear.
But Perkins time with the Giants was amazing. He built those incredible Giants teams of the 80's that parcels went on to win Super Bowl's with....but couldn't resist the allure of taking over from Bryant...big mistake though because he was a terrible college coach. Should have stayed in the pros and he would have been a legend with a couple of rings as a coach. Perkins was made for the pros and not college.

RIP Coach!
Bama had some outstanding wins during Perk's tenure.
Iron Bowl 84, Wrong way Bo Game.
Labor Day 85, last second Shula to Bell.
Iron Bowl 85, back & forth 4th quarter lead changes, Tiffin 52 yarder as time expired.
Nortre Dame 86 at Legion Field. Look up Cornelius Bennett sack on Steve Buerlein. Momentum swinger right there.
Perkins was an outstanding recruiter. He would later admit regretting leaving Bama for Tampa.
We'll miss you Ray.

RIP Coach!! I had the opportunity to meet Coach Perkins when I was a 12 year old playing in the Dizzy Dean State Tournament being held in Northport. One of our coaches had gone to UA and he was showing us around the campus when Coach Perkins came walking down the steps at Coleman. My dad went over to him and asked if he had time to meet some young impressionable kids and Coach was more than willing to give us some time and speak with us. I'll always remember that day.

RIP Coach. Had one of the hardest jobs after following Coach Bryant.

I am so Old I saw Ray and Bama beat the brakes off New-Braska in the 67 Sugar Bowl at old Tulane stadium. On the 1st Bama offensive play snake hit Ray streaking down the sideline for a long gain. It was all downhill for the Huskers at that point. Ray was an excellent football player.
RIP #88. He was a goodun.
