At least some good news, unless he decides to transfer to Texas. I kid. I kid.

So other than corner and an alpha d-lineman, where are the question marks next year?

I assume you're talking defense? I think with Jobe coming back I actually feel really good about the secondary and the defensive line.

Gotta figure out who lines up next to Harris inside. Moody showed me some stuff in the Arkansas game when he was forced into action early. I think it might be him. Not sure how any of the young guys have developed inside because we play the same two guys there all year and almost every play.

That's awesome. He seemed to be a real leader to me, always engaged on the sidelines when he wasn't in. Should be a solid, experienced defense next season.

I think by far the biggest concern is a defensive tackle who can invade the backfield, and I think Tim Smith clearly has the ability to do that. We'll have 10 deep of experienced guys for the 3 down linemen.

The minor things would be the other ILB position, but we will have a myriad of options - both older experienced ones and young electric talent ones.

OLB is probably the best in the country. Safety and slot corner/nickel will be loaded with experience.

No no definitely not calling Jobe a question mark he's fantastic. And the d-line is already good. IMO the National Championship Defensive formula at its simplest is 2 really good corners and some animals on the d-line. This defense projects to elite if 1 guy steps up in both those spots

The most exciting thing about the 2021 defense is the combination of experience, depth and young talent. I mean just look at the depth charts for each position and it is absolutely insane.

Think about a place like cornerback. We'll have 1 open spot to fill between guys across 3-4 separate classes who the staff likes all of them. You can go position by position and see the same thing.

Compare it to 2019 where we were just throwing out bodies in multiple spots. It's incredible.

I see what you mean now.

Yeah, we will see how it shakes out. Moore was so good at STAR, but he could potentially move out to corner. I think they're going to want to get Branch on the field. I know he had a couple bad moments against Ohio State but overall I think he's a future star (player, not necessarily position).

If McKinstry is what people think he is, than I imagine he might play corner and keep Moore at STAR. Would allow the possibility of Branch playing FS and I think he'd be an updgrade over Wright or Hellams.

That is a perfect example. I mean look at all those options with great, versatile, experienced, young players.

And that doesn't even include some of the other guys that the staff love - Ronald Williams, Marcus Banks, the latest juco CB coming in.

JAD just out of favor? If I remember correctly good things were being said prior to his first season and then he got hurt I think and fell of the map. I thought it was between him and Jobe at one point on the other side of Surtain.

Good point. The transfer portal basically being open for free this year has me concerned for some of our depth.

Pretty much this. CFBs Big 3 (CU, OSU, and Bama) are all in the same boat on offense. Pretty much a competition on who can develop their unproven 5-star qb and scheme around him the best. But we are looking at the best defensive situation of the 3.

We seemed destined for a rebuild with the impending loss of star-power but the defense's improvement and retention of players changes that outlook. Plus the only teams that look almost certain to have championship caliber offense next year are Georgia and Oklahoma

I don't know that he fell out of favor. We just don't rotate corners at all. If you aren't a starter in the secondary you probably will only see the field against the cupcakes, and even that is probably for a series, maybe two at the very end.
