I don't know why we bother looking at PFF.. they don't make sense 90 percent of the time.

I think you have to take their "overall grades" with a grain of salt. I think their detailed grades (tackling, pass rush, coverage) are generally pretty good, mainly because they just have the time to watch every play a kid plays and mark it good/bad. Like with a lot of "aggregate" stats on something that you can't really aggregate, they have no idea how to take all those things and put them into one number. Like, how do you balance out Moses' tackling with his coverage and pass rush? What is more important? It makes more sense to me just to give me each individual silo and let me see how he performed in each area (which they do).
As noted, Moses was elite tackling on Saturday - which probably explains why the coaches were so happy.

Team Defense Missed Tackles
Missouri - 11 (Wright 3, Surtain 2)
Texas A&M - 7 (Battle, Wright 2)
Ole Miss - 21 (Anderson, Harris 3; Moore, Hellams, Mathis, Wright 2)
Georgia - 8 (Barmore, Wright 2)

So we had two above-average pass rushers, and one was a safety.

For Waddle, maybe they dont like giving as much weight into simply being the fastest guy on the field. For reference, Tyreek Hill has usually graded in the low to mid 80s throughout his career.
Also could have sworn Jobe and Surtain were amazing in coverage the other night

Yea Ole Miss was awful - and while it makes sense that Georgia would be better due to the nature of the offense, the tackling was significantly better.
That's the thing - this group doesn't have to be 2011, just be a little better in 2-3 areas and it gives us a shot.

I thought, in real time, that Chris Allen had a pretty good game. I haven’t rewatched it though, much less watched any all 22 footage.
The Jobe and Surtain ratings make sense to me though. Surtain seemed really good, Jobe just ok.

It's pretty wild - we defended everyone except James Cook really, really well. Monken drew up some really nice stuff to get him on Moses/Harris a few times - the 3rd and 10 completion and the long TD pass.

They targeted Burton 13 times, which makes me think that Surtain must have had Pickens pretty much locked down for most of the game (7 targets)
Pickens

vs everyone else - 3 targets, 3 catches, 32 yards
Burton
vs Surtain - 3 targets, 1 catch, 3 yards
vs Jobe - 6 targets, 2 catches, 19 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
vs Hellams - 3 targets, 1 catch, 36 yards

I still believe Jobe should be a safety.

I think that we might have considered that had the cornerback depth not disappeared.
The Rams basically did that with Jalen Ramsey because teams were just avoiding throwing the ball outside and they thought he could make more of an impact at safety (sort of Minkah-esque). Jobe seems to have the body and skillset for it, at the very least a hybrid guy.
We just have to hope Wright tackles better and/or Hellams covers better. Maybe both? Is that too greedy?
Posted on 10/19/20 at 5:57 pm to SummerOfGeorge
It’s not greedy. We should be allowed to have far fetched dreams

No doubt Moses played better... But guessing his grade is based on the fact he still can't seem to read and fit the run game. Even in the georgia game he struggled and made the wrong reads
