I personally don’t think Pete’s an idiot or even bad. He’s OK. I wouldn’t be upset if he were retained.

But that delayed safety blitz was unforgivable.

Golding's problem is he's a horrible playcaller.

Doesn't matter how much he knows when he struggles to diagnose in the middle of the action and call plays to successfully counter.

Yeah, because that's what Saban does; he hires incompetent idiots to coach at Bama and leaves them on staff for three years because it takes that long for the GOAT coach to figure that out...

ive been on the, pete needs to go train, for a good while now. however, pete opened my eyes as to how he approaches live action. he told the whole world how was going to work the d in the natty and then went out and did it. for that, i'm kind of on the fence now. no, i'm not ignoring his grossly underachieving mlb'r coaching results. that is still a glaring problem. i wont be upset if he leaves nor will i be upset if he stays, for maybe one more year. then we can see where we are.

Top 20 D nationally among teams that played double digit game seasons.

Top 10 nationally in defensive FEI among teams that played 10 or games.

Top 3 Total D, Passing D, and rushing D in the SEC, coupled with leading scoring D in the conference.

Managed a lot of youth and some key/lingering issues all season among personnel.

Given how disproportionately explosive and efficient the offense was, it was a pretty good defensive effort overall. In today's style of play, dominant/suffocating Ds do not go hand in hand with high octane offenses.

The sooner that bitch is out, the better for Bama.

Comments like this from someone who probably doesn't know the difference between Cover 2 and Cover 3 always makes me laugh.

Pete just helped lead us to a National Championship. “That bitch” showed improvement since Ole Miss. Ohio State the previous week destroyed Clemson’s defense.

We all know rules favor offense, and we have to measure success differently these days for the defense. However, these rules apply to every defense in the nation, shouldn’t our goal still be in the top 5 in all categories? Ten years ago would we have been ok with a top 20 defense? Hell no

Not to mention there was no spring practice to help fine tune a young defense that had three true freshmen either starting or getting significant playing time (Anderson, Moore, & Branch) as well as several sophomores...

Everyone loves Pruitt as a DC (so do I) but they seem to have selective memory when it comes to his bad games. That 2016 defense had probably the best talent on D that Bama's ever had. Still, they gave up two 500+ total yard games that year, three 400+ yard passing games, a 40+ point game, and two 30+ point games (Ole Miss scored 43 but had a defensive TD). That defense had multiple consensus All-Americans, multiple award winners, and numerous first and second round draft picks, and at least two All Pro players. Golding doesn't have as much talent on this D as Pruitt did in '16; Surtain's the only consensus/unanimous All-American on D, although Barmore was playing like one later in the season. That being said, with the youth on defense, I think the potential is there to have a bunch of studs the next couple of years...

He's not the best ILB coach; in his history, he's always coached DBs (and done well). But Saban likes his DC to coach ILB, I assume since they make the defensive calls and get folk situated. I did hear that Christian Harris loves Golding and credited him with his improvement this year...as for Dylan Moses, I still think he's lacking confidence in his knee but the did play his best game of the season against OSU. Surtain also praised Golding with improving communication and turning the players loose more this year...

I'd like to see Golding return next year but, if he doesn't, I won't lose sleep over it as I know Saban will pick a good 'un. If he leaves, I'd love to see Pruitt come back (providing there's no fallout from the UT investigations). But, if Pruitt does return, don't be shocked if he gives up some big yardage games and points against the better offenses...I think that's just more of a reflection of what the game's evolved into right now...

10 years ago we didn’t have an offense that scored so quickly. Our defenses 10+ years ago didn’t play offenses like we do today & our offense was much more ball control & limiting the other teams possessions.

Is our defense perfect? No, but it was good enough to win a national championship & improved drastically after the Ole Miss game. Will it be a top 5-10 defense next year? No one knows but I believe Golding has us heading in that direction.

Pete might not be Brother Oliver as a DC but he is OK. I am still in the camp that it is the Jimmy and Joe's at certain spots that is the bigger problem. Bama missed at ILB just as soon as Pruitt walked out the door.

Talent certainly matters, but with the complexity of offenses and schemes today, it takes quality coaching to teach the game and put that talent in the best position to play as a seamless unit.

Take a good luck at the 2018 Bama recruiting class on the defensive side and look at the misses. Hell look at the offensive side as well. Bama is still trying to recover. There is at least 10 players that crashed and burned.

The adjustment to the earlier signing day did not go well for Alabama. But Saban and staff have obviously adjusted.

Yep, I'm good with keeping him if that is the route Saban wants to take. Is he in the same league as Pruitt or Smart, no. But he is still a better DC than 80% to 90% of the current coaches out there. And he obviously is a good enough DC that we can win a NC with him. So unless we have Pruitt in hand, we are better off keeping him around.
