re: Pete Golding

Is there actually substance to that? Or is this just Fat Phil spreading bull shite behind the scenes to stick the knife in JP's back?

I'm sure they are conveniently using it best they can but yea, I think there is some legit substance there.

It appears UT is aiming to get JP to settle for less than his full buyout.

re: Pete Golding
People keep talking about Pruitt. He had a game or two in 2016 NS 2017 where he gave up a good number of points. He never dealt with the injuries nor, as best as I can recall, did he deal with getting raided by the NFL like Golding has had to.

Be careful about what you wish for.

Maybe it's why Muschamp didn't go to Texas. It would make perfect sense in some ways, especially given that he's worked for Saban before.

That would make a pretty killer staff... Saban, BOB, Scout - definitely experienced

Would we be happy with Muschamp at DC?

re: Pete Golding
Laugh all you want, but he's obviously a lot smarter than most assistant coaches we have had. Listen to him talk about defenses. Like I said, the problem he has had is figuring out how to teach it, and how to manage it at game speed. And he's new, so why wouldn't that improve?

I'm not a Golding fan by any means. If Saban let's him leave, I won't cry a bit. But, it's obvious he isn't dumb.

I mean, if Saban brought him back I'd trust that Saban still believed he was good....

Is that a good answer?

It could be that the defensive improvement, especially in the NCG is due to another staff member. Who knows?

All I know is I trust Saban

The improvement was the DL putting some pressure on Fields not from ILBer or safety play. It's the Jimmy and Joe's and not so much Peter. Maybe.

Bama's defense also benefited from OSU missing Sermon and Fields being somewhat limited.

Im not going to get into details as I don’t want to burn a bridge. Also things change with conversations.. but remember Saban said that the defense was OK this year.. Saban is never satisfied with OK.

He never dealt with injuries? He lost Christian Miller and Terrell Lewis in game one of 17. Hootie Jones and Shaun Dion Hamilton were also lost to season ending injuries. Mack Wilson, DeShawn Hand, and Rahsaan Evans missed multiple games. Anfernee Jennings had an almost career ending injury in the semis against Clemson. Get out of here with that nonsense.

Just enough for the comedy of watching them go at it with each other on the sidelines after the team gives up a 50 yard touchdown.

CNS would be unlikely to say anything to WM. He only gets on people who do not do what they know to do. That would rarely if ever happen with WM. He is a great college DC, or at least was. I assume he can still do it.

IMO, the reason Steele had success at AU was because of WM's groundwork of the previous year. AU whose D was bad improved the 2nd half of the year in WM's only year. A far superior Bama O struggled to score vs AU that year with Henry, plus Coker on his late season run.

Saban demoted WM at Miami after his first year in order to hire Dom Capers. The Miami D improved from 18th to 4th in NFL total D. But that was the NFL - a much higher bar. Nevertheless, WM is, or was, a great college DC. I'm glad he didn't go to AU or UTw, and hope he does not go to LSU. He's a great recruiter too.

That was the year auburn did something to their field to make it soggy and slippery as crap even though it hadn't rained in over a week. Gus was also quoted that they tried to slow down the game and keep scoring low because they knew they couldn't keep up on offense.

It was still tough sledding on offense. Usually a wet field favors the D anyway.

But in any case, IMO, WM is or was a terrific college DC.

Delayed safety blitzes from the fricking locker room on 3rd and 3 says you’re wrong.

Pete Golding is a fricking incompetent idiot. Full stop.

The sooner that bitch is out, the better for Bama.
