Our next head coach

CNS is the GOAT and I hope he’s here for many more years. Having said that, as an old fart Bama fan who’s closing in on a half century of watching the Tide, I think I’ve seen that it’s time to change our basic philosophy. College football has evolved to the point where our longtime DNA of being defensive minded first is going the way of the dinosaur. Oh, defense still wins championships, but nowadays, that statement needs to be amended to add “but only if you have an explosive offense too.”
Some guys like Dabo and Lincoln Riley and even sleazy Urban Meyer have figured it out. The next coach needs to be from an offensive background, preferably an OC who is the mastermind behind one of the high octane attacks you see throughout college football. The rules have been skewed to favor offense to the point that a team like 1992 Alabama that was the definition of mediocre, conservative offense could not win the title in today’s world.
The great coaches still understand there must be balance and that the defense must be good, good enough to take over the game occasionally. But you can’t rest on even the best defenses today to contend for championships. Your offense must be your bellcow. I’m not sure I like the change but it is what it is. Saban has recognized it himself and has abandoned his old run first pro style in favor of more and more explosive attacks.
Our next coach needs to be a guy that still believes in solid defense but one that puts offense first.

Lincoln Riley may be Bama's HC by then.

I think he needs to be someone who can recruit elite players at all positions, hire good assistants, and have strong enough leadership skills to keep the program steady.

When that day comes I’m sure CNS will have someone he’ll recommend.
Everyone will be on the Dabo train. Don’t get me wrong I like the man. Brent Venables maybe a star in the making though.

Pretty sure the offseason officially ended last Saturday.

Saban will be at Bama between 2022-2026. It'll put him at 15 to 20 years at Bama.
Lincoln Riley will be coaching in the the NFL next year.
Sentiment among Bama's decision-makers has soured about Dabo. And I don't think Bama fans want that type of program. A goofy good ole boy after years of having a CEO-like coach.
But it doesn't matter, Saban will name his predecessor. It'll be Cristobal. He's about to win 3-4 Pac 12 Championships in a row. He's the most Saban-like.
But the Saban tree is bigger than you think.

Maybe he figured it out this summer but Oklahoma was like 114 of 129 teams in total defense last year.

Yes they were but instead of ignoring the problem like Bob Stoops did (a defensive guy, mind you WTF?), Riley fired longtime DC Mike Stoops and brought in Alex Grinch to fix the defense. The same Alex Grinch that had been a defensive assistant for Urban Meyer (offensive guy) and who Mike Leech (another offensive guy) had hired to turn around Washington State’s abysmal defense which he did. Give Grinch another season or two and Oklahoma will be top 20 defensively and a sack of hell to deal with.

Good lord. You won't let this one go

People always say this, but if Bama tries to hire a coach exactly like CNS after he’s gone, we are gonna get disappointed. I think it would actually HELP to go an alternate direction. With that said, this is irrelevant for, at minimum, 5-7 more years.

Why are people so afraid to discuss the inevitable? Jesus Christ, some of you are complete pansies about this.
Grandma is gonna one day die and Saban will one day retire. It's OK to talk about the future.

Furthermore, the last thing you want is Saban picking his successor. That's how we ended up with a generation of famine bending it over for Bear's former players.

Probably hasn't been discussed much but the coach Frans of the world didn't like the rock star status that goes with this job. If we do our due-diligence we select a winner that loves, I mean, loves, the limelight. Like coach Saban.

Because it's football season and I prefer to enjoy the now.

Some absolutely abysmal takes in the OP.
How many NCs have come out of the Hal Mumme coaching tree?
What is RichRod up to these days? What was Kliff Kingsbury's record with Mahomes as his college QB?
At the end of the day we need to attract the best assistants, have the best facilities/campus environment, recruit the best players, and have the best development process for players to reach their potential.
That's why having a CEO like Saban has been so successful. Offensive/defensive philosophies shift and change with the times. If you hang your hat on something like the Air Raid, or the read-option, or the RPO, you'll eventually get left in the dust.

Saban will be here 8 more years. He'll hang it up at 75. There will be no decline either...
Look at Coach K at Duke. He's 73 and still rolling. He just pulled in the best recruiting class of all time last year with Zion and co. These kids want to play for a living legend.
Saban wants 300 wins(obviously he wants more titles too). There's only a few head coaches that are in that 300 win club and he wants to join. At the rate he's winning he should hit 300 career wins by the age of 75.
