I suppose I was too wrapped up in Bama this past weekend to notice this.....

No. 1 Florida loses first series to Miami since 2014

After ending a six-game losing streak to Florida in comeback fashion Saturday, Miami snapped a six-year losing streak in Sunday’s rubber match. The No. 21 Hurricanes had a pair of three-run innings and held off a late rally by top-ranked UF, clinching their first series in the rivalry since 2014 with an 8-6 victory.

LSU lost to Air Force today.

As an active duty Air Force member I take double pleasure in this LSU loss.

No. 7 LSU Baseball Falls in Game 2 vs. Air Force, 6-5

BATON ROUGE – Air Force (1-1) scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning on a pair of bases-loaded walks and a sac fly to defeat seventh-ranked LSU (1-1), 6-4, Sunday afternoon at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

Joe Martinez III (1-0) earned the win for Air Force after facing two batters and striking out one. Paul Skenes earned the save after closing the game for the Falcons. He gave up one run in the ninth.

"All of the Air Force pitchers did a super job, and their kids really competed," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "They threw some really great arms against us; their last pitcher was throwing 97 mph. They made some great plays in the field under a lot of pressure, and that's what you would expect of kids from the Air Force Academy. They're going to be flying 100 million aircraft one day, and there's no option but to win.”

Baseball America top 25 rankings: Ole Miss ranked No. 1, SEC has 9 teams in updated poll

Baseball America has put out a pair of top 25 rankings so far this college baseball season and each time a team from the Southeastern Conference has ranked No. 1 in the poll.

Florida opened the season as the No. 1 team but dropped to No. 7 this week after opening the season 1-2 following an opening weekend series with Miami.

With the Gators struggling out of the gate, Ole Miss has seized the new No. 1 spot as the Rebels are 2-0 after beating TCU and Texas Tech, which are both ranked in the top 12 of the poll.

In total, there are nine SEC teams ranked in the new top 25 rankings from Baseball America.

#4 ranked Vanderbilt opens their season at noon today.
Double header vs Wright State.
The great Kumar Rocker taking the mound for either game 1 or 2.

Wright State is also Bama’s upcoming weekend series opponent (although the weather forecast is not too promising at the moment)

Offense, pitching struggle in opening series loss for Missouri baseball

Despite small signs of potential, the Tigers looked very rusty in their first weekend set of the season.

A lot of lows, very few highs and a ton of confusion told the story of opening weekend for Missouri.

Coming into the season with optimism and new faces, it seemed as though Missouri was not on host and series winner Grand Canyon’s level.

The Tigers lost three of four games to the Lopes in blowout fashion. Grand Canyon looked like a team that had been playing outdoors consistently through the winter, showing little to no signs of rust.

Vanderbilt starts season with double header sweep of Wright State

It took nearly 72 hours longer than expected and lots of shoveling ice and snow off of Hawkins Field, but Vanderbilt finally took the field on Monday against Wright State to open its 2021 season. And little rust showed up, as starting pitchers Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter led the Commodores to two wins — 14-1 in the first game and 1-0 in the second.

McTrolling: Tennessee baseball uses McDonald's bag to celebrate home run

At this point, Tennessee football fans have grown accustomed to rival fans trolling them with McDonald’s references.

But to see one of the school’s other sports programs troll the football program is pretty unexpected.

That’s what happened recently during Tennessee’s 21-1 win over Arkansas Pine-Bluff on the diamond as one of the team’s players held up a McDonald’s bag after rounding the bases following a home run.

If you look carefully at the clip below, the player holds up the McDonald’s bag just before reaching the dugout.

Auburn baseball drops Boston College series after blowing eight-run lead

When Cam Hill stepped onto the mound in the ninth, Auburn had a dominant 9-1 lead on No. 18 Boston College, but 10 runs, eight hits and three Auburn pitchers later, Boston College secured the win 11-9 and the series 2-1.

Series loss to Oral Roberts better serve as wake-up call

quote:

The college baseball season is fewer than three weeks old and some are already questioning whether this LSU team has what it takes to make it back to Omaha for the first time since 2017 when the Tigers finished runner-up to Florida. A weekend series loss to Oral Roberts will do that for a rabid fanbase like the one in Louisiana.

Losing two out of three games to an Oral Roberts squad that entered the weekend with just two wins in eight games on your home field is bad. However, it isn’t the end of the world. And it certainly doesn’t mean that is a sign of things to come with SEC play only two weeks away.

It should serve as a serious wake-up call, though.
